Fake news. The source of your info is Vivid Seats, a 3rd party ticket re-seller similar to Stub Hub. Show numbers based on average face value, not what existing ticket holders were able to get on the resale market.

Don't blame the player for playing the game. Blame the city officials for falling for the player's tactics. Why did the City of Louisville elect officials that will get strong armed? Were the taxpayers who wanted this NBA team knocking down the elected officials doors to make it go through? If so, and the city officials went a different direction then why did the taxpayers elect someone who doesn't care about their interests?

It's easy to blame the U of L. Yet nobody has yet to hold the city itself accountable in this thread

From my perspective, Rick Pitino and Jurich had very little bargaining power. It's not like they can pick up and move their athletic department outside the city either way the city was going to generate its revenue from the U of L.

They threatened to build their own arena on campus where the city wouldn't see any revenue and that they would completely back out of the Louisville Arena Authority agreement with the Yum Center. The city couldn't afford to foot that bill without a guaranteed NBA team coming.

The NBA in Louisville would only hurt the University. So of course you being a UK fan would embrace the NBA. Thank God people know the NBA in Louisville would me a mistake and never work

I went to the rockets/pels game in Houston Monday night and half the club section was empty for the team with the best record in basketball. Pretty smart that all the seats are red though so it doesn't look bad on TV.
Those seats are paid for. They are corporate seats. Fans don't like that the seats are where they are because it looks bad on TV, but it's not because of a lack of fan interest.

So are you suggesting the UofL fanbase wouldn't still support their team if an NBA team moved here? It's a shame your fanbase is that fragile.

And for people to "know the NBA in Louisville would be a mistake and never work", the Hornets agreed in principal to a deal so obviously someone thought it would work.

The reality is it would've worked here. The Colonels were wildly successful here just a few years removed from a Louisville NC team and only folded because John Y. Brown wanted the money instead of the team.

Well then I'm appreciative of Houston corporations for not bothering to give their tickets away. It was very nice to be able to stretch out and have absolutely no line for the bars or bathrooms.

And if they can't fill club seats for a team with 2 top 20 players I'd hate to see what it looks like when the Hawks are in town.

The Hornets/Pels have managed to hold on for quite a while. Plus I doubt Benson or his wife sells the team anytime soon. NBA franchises are skyrocketing in value.

Ya but the problem with SA and Austin is that their metros are relatively small.

7th and 11th biggest city. 24th and 31st metro, but moving up.

Just New Orleans sports. And it is. It's a small market and has I believe only one championship between it's only two major professional sports teams. They have an NFL and and NBA team. No MLB and no NHL. It's not exactly a booming market for professional sports. They re branded one of the teams, previously lost an NBA team, and had the owner of their NFL team hold their citizens over the barrel after the largest natural disaster in US history.

Fair points but owners also look at things like what cities can draw visiting fans for road trips.

You're a visiting team fan looking for a fun road trip to follow the team. AT LEAST 8/10 will pick New Orleans over Louisville.

Yeah metro areas are what matter when talking about pro teams and markets. People seem to forget most people live outside the city limits.
