Man, there's traffic problems in many stadiums and they still sell out or have good crowds. Would about Turner field. The traffic there sucks major arse and they still have decent attendance considering atlanta sucks as a sports city.

You either have St. Pete/Clearwater area or Ghetto.
I don't know about the land availability in Tampa, so I can't answer as to an alternative. Something near downtown on the water would be awesome if possible. I know they have a convention center like this.

Besides, it's not shitty in and of itself.

I know the situation sucks down there and it could be better, I'm just saying that even with all that, they should've at least sold out in the playoffs. they did not and they weren't even close.
that tells me that Tampa won't support regardless.

The Rays dont get much local support because the people down there really cant stand that they are called the Tampa Rays and not the St Petersburg Rays since The Trop is in St Petersburg. They have gotten a ton of backlash for it and some locals there just refuse to support it. And another reason is nobody in Florida really gives two stinks about sports and sporting events. The Marlins, Dolphins, Bucs, Hurricanes, Seminoles, Jaguars, Heat and Magic have all historically always had poor attendance. I seem to remember the Marlins having trouble selling playoff tickets a few years back.

The area by the airport has the land to make it happen and it certainly isn't the ghetto. And it's ridiculous to say that playing in St. Pete makes no difference, last time I checked almost 75% of the Rays season ticket holders live in Hillsborough county (Tampa).

Be nice to see some new cities get a club. I would say New Orleans but they are up and down with the Hornets. Memphis may be able to support a big league franchise. Portland, Salt Lake City may be worth a try in baseball.

NO and Memphis couldn't support a team.

Do you know anything about the Rangers? Pretty much any pro-orginization is going to see an increase in attendance due to winning. Who wants to see a losing product?
And the Rangers have always had a recognizable name from Michael Young to Mark Texiera to A-Rod and so on.
And as for homers and offense? In 2005 the Rangers had 260 home runs, 2nd most all time to Seattles 264. Some of the best Rangers offenses have been in the mid-2000's, that has never been their problem. It has been pitching and guess what, they have a big name there too in Yu Darvish.
The Rangers are set for years, there is a reason why ESPN and other baseball sites have the Rangers as the number 1 team to continue their success into the future.

Who said they aren't? Arlington has never been known as a great park for attendance until recently.

All have had pretty solid attendance.

There's plenty of space near Raymond James Stadium where they could put an open-air or retractable roof ballpark. There is also some space downtown near the Times Forum where the Lightning play.
The problem with the Rays, besides being in St. Pete and at the piece of shite Trop, is what people have already stated.. Florida is just not a good sports state.
And people suggesting New Orleans are out of their minds. People in Louisiana, especially NOLA, don't like MLB; and if they do they already have pretty strong allegiances to the Braves or Astros. In addition.. where the frick would you put a MLB stadium in New Orleans? Kenner? lolz

They have ranked right around 5.7 out of 14 teams for an 18 year average since the ballpark opened. Top half of the pack after missing the playoffs 13 out of 18 times. That isn't bad attendance. Meanwhile, the best that the Tampa Bay Rays could do was 7th the first year the team was there while usually finishing dead last in attendance.
And I bet you can name almost all of the 5 teams ahead of the Rangers in attendance average.

Are they going to be able to afford both Napoli and Hamilton?
Also, I'm not a huge fan of their rotation. If you want to win a World Series title (not just get there) you have to have dominant starters. Really impressed with their bullpen though and I know they have some good pieces in the farm system.

I did an internship in Tampa one summer. Made a couple of Rays games while I was there. We stayed on UCFs campus north of Tampa. Getting to The Trop is awful. It's not convenient from anywhere except St Pete. It's kinda in the ghetto too. Parking is very weird. There is no atmosphere around the stadium. There are a lot of Yankee fans yes, but most of them are soulless fans relocated from New England anyways.
If you moved the stadium downtown, or near the airport, it would be infinitely more accessible to the Tampa area. The majority of expansion in Tampa is north and south. There you would have room to make it an experience ala bars, restaraunts, etc. lot of baseball fans in Florida.

So you don't think Tampa Bay is a good market for baseball yet you want to move the team to Montreal where they could barely get 5000 fans to the game and had to play some of their home games in Puerto Rico because their fan support was so shitty? Are you out of your mind?

More than likely, yes they can afford them. Its more about who they would rather keep. They might sign Josh before he hits FA and that would make the signing of Napoli more feasible.

And they are hoping Yu becomes that dominant guy. Remember, the Rangers have 4 starters under the age of 26, there is a shitload of potential in that rotation.

But you also have to factor in that you would probably lose a certain amount of Rays fans from St. Pete who would then refuse to drive to Tampa for a game. Not sure what the offset would be. I'm sure a lot more people from the eastern part of the area would go to games though. And a lot of folks live over near Bradenton, etc.

Just saw they're paying Holland through 2016. That's a long contract based on "potential."
Also, Beltre is making a frick ton of money through 2016 as well. And Kinsler just inked a long-term contract. Will be interesting to watch them going forward.
But, i still maintain they can't win a WS with a rotation where the avg. ERA is 3.72.

He asked a question...
My other stuff is to Moustache who said the Rangers don't support the team that well.
