Floyd capitalized on UFC fandom for McGregor and McGregor capitalized on the fact that Floyd was just gonna peck him to death and not plant him

This has been a quality melt from the MMA community. Hasn't disappointed.

You're correct that Mayweather had the ultimate say if he wanted the fight and if he wanted another big payday. He also got to dictate financial and contractual terms. No argument there.
However, going by the timeline for at least the past 2 or so years, this wasn't his thing, he didn't come up with the idea to get a big payday on MMA, and didn't really have a choice who the opponent would be.
The timeline reflects it was Mcgregor who initiated and started this over 2 years ago, purposely taking direct aim directly at Mayweather and calling him out. Mayweather blew him off at the time and refused to acknowledge him.
Mcgregor kept on little by little because he's a cocky bastard and wanted huge money while he was becoming this MMA phenomenon (for lack of a better word) and when he ultimately just blew up into the main MMA superstar, Mayweather saw the potential dollar signs and public interest....which was created by Mcgregor. Once they dealt with the UFC contract / Dana White obstacle, things started to actually take shape.
Yes, Mayweather had the final decision. He had all the leverage in promotion, marketing, purse, etc. But this was not Mayweather's brainchild or genius big payday idea. He certainly couldn't choose anyone but Mcgregor.
Unless, I'm just missing some inside information or something or Mayweather truly implemented this idea years ago and I'm not that big of a nerd to go back that far, and somehow Mcgregor got worded this scheme....your theory doesn't add up.
Mayweather took the opportunity that Mcgregor presented because it ultimately became a financial nobrainer.

Surprised you could pull yourself away from the dry humping octagon long enough to post this.
Step away from the keyboard and take a sip of your 24oz monster energy...... it's going to be ok

And why do you think he got 100 million? Because of money mayweather. You think connor fighting Joe schmo brings in that kind of ratings? Nope.
Oh and sweet moral victory thread bro.

You all seem to be overly obsessed with moral victory/butthurt theme...so here is the simple shortbus version:
(1)Conor wanted a huge payday that UFC can't provide but boxing can.
(2)Conor targeted the only man in boxing who would create that kind of payday.
(3)Mayweather likes money too and finally agrees.
(4)Sport of boxing bends over and let's it happen.
(5)Conor is now an estimated $70-$100 million richer.
In summary, Conor used the sport of boxing like a hooker and made off with close to $100 million dollars and chased it down with some freakin' whiskey. Of course Mayweather made more...that's why Conor's been baiting him for 2 years.
Thus, like I said in the title, regardless of the fight (win or lose for the short bus crowd), he actually won last night. He achieved his goal. He weaseled his way into the sport of boxing, against the biggest name in the sport and brought home a payday very few boxers will ever see.
The dominating part is because he pulled it off while actually managing to keep his credibility.
