Read an article after he was released where Mayock made a comment that they did a more thorough background on him than any other draft pick because of issues at OSU. Even acknowledged that they knew several teams were overlooking him because of some of these issues. Then commented that they though the risk was worth the reward

Yep. There are several media reports out there to the effect that his draft status dropped dramatically because of off the filed issues at college; no specifics but to drop like he did, it wasn't a matter of him smoking weed.
