Question about hockey rules

Why did avalanche pull their goalie just now? Was it because it was a delayed penalty? Does that mean they can play with no goalie?

Yes. On a delayed penalty, play is automatically stopped when the team who committed the penalty touches the puck.

On a delayed penalty call, the second the Penalty team gets the puck, the ref blows the whistle to start the power play.
Pulling your goalie gives you no risk because you get an extra attacker and if the other team finally gets the puck the play ends anyway.

Correct. Six skaters on the ice, so when the goalie is pulled you can put someone else on.

Technically there is a risk. I have seen teams miscommunicate on a pass and own goal themselves without the penalized team touching the puck. It's rare but I've seen it happen.

True story. Playin g roller hockey back in the early 2000’s. We are in a delayed penalty situation, our goalie heads for the bench and a perfect pass is missed at the point and the puck rolled into our own goal.
