I guess anything is possible, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Why would they would waste a draft pick and a required salary and signing bonus, knowing that they were likely to face a costly PR nightmare and they were probably going to either cut him, yet still own >$200k or make him sit and pay him his salary. Not only that but here was a good a good chance they could get him an undrafted free agent since other teams were staying away, and that wouldn’t be as much of a PR nightmare. And even if someone did sign him instead, it’s not like there aren’t other punters who are serviceable enough so it’s not a huge loss, especially since there is a decent chance he wouldn’t be punting for at least a season, if not more (if allegations ended up true). Even incompetent front offices aren’t that incompetent.

Consensual or not isn’t the age of consent 18? I think the prosecutor said they had to prove they knew she was under the age of 18. The other players seemingly would have been charged with whatever that’s classified as in California if that could have been proven.

Civil lawsuit still seems to include Araiza at least for the moment. It’s at least claimed that Araiza had sex with her outside before the videos (maybe he admitted but said it was consensual and thought she was in college), but to have 9 short videos of the sex that never show Araiza while knowing the police can’t release videos because a minor is in them seems suspiciously like a tactic to pressure the golden goose of the group to settle for what was the worst allegation at the time - gang rape.

Her attorney thinks now offering to remove part about him taking her to bedroom afterwards is enough, but that is also admitting they have nothing to tie him to bedroom gang rape/bang.
