You potentially have to win 4 extra games to win the title now.
Compared to when? If you go back far enough it's way more than that. LSU played 15 games to win the CFP in 2019, 4 4-team 2-game playoff. They played 14 games to win in 2007, two two-team single-game playoff.
The likely winner will play 16 games but if you play in the first playoff series 17 games.
So up to 2 more games than a 4 team playoff, 3 more than a two-team playoff, or the old way of voting if you play a conference championship game.
The 1958 Tigers won the natty in 11 games, playing one after the regular season.

Just stop asking a biased committee to pick the teams. Have the BCS computer system pump out the teams or something.
If you use the same conference champion and bye stipulations, the BCS simulations they run now and the CFP rankings would only differ with Alabam getting in instead of SMU. And some of the seedings may change. If you eliminate the conference championship auto bids they pick the same twelve teams.
