The current CBA expires after the 2020 season. One of the big sticking points in the negotiations between the players union and the NFL is that the owners want to have a 17 or 18 game regular season schedule.

How about this for a solution – go to an 18 game schedule, however, no player can play more than 16 games.

I think it would bring in a level of strategy for all teams. Teams will have to decide when to sit their starting quarterbacks, and which players should sit out during the same games.

Well, that's where the strategy comes in. You are not going to sit out all the stars in the same game. The Saints are not going to sit Brees, Kamara, and Thomas in the same game, even if they're playing the Dolphins.
