Paterno should go. He let Sandusky have access to the facilities long after the original allegations. Penn State allowed the guy to have an overnight football camp in 2009 on campus using their name.
Some folks are going to sue and win big. I wouldn't be surprised if Paterno is sued personally. This is going to get ugly real quick.

Unfortunately I don't think Joe would ever get to the point that he could believe that Sandusky was capable of being this much of a monster. If anything the belief was that Sandusky was a champion of kids in need because Second Mile (Sandusky's charity foundation) was dedicated to helping them. They are all over the state and they actually have done some really good charity work over the years (around since 1977.)

Whether they were close friends or not is complete irrelevant. He was told of what happened and chose to protect himself, his career, and the face of a program over children. For that he is a coward and no longer deserves to be employed coaching young people. This just shows how completely out of touch he's been for quite a while.

I am not saying it is unexpected. I just don't think he deserves to shoulder the blame.

There is a reason the AD and Vice president, who Joe Pa told the allegations too, are the ones getting in trouble now and not him.

instead of reporting it to police, they just tried to limit Sanduskys access to the facilities.

both turned themselves in on Monday.

Why did he not, as a person, think more of it? Why did he not do whatever was in his power to separate his program from such behavior?

I am guessing he thought the decisions of the AD and VP of Penn State was enough. To him it was probably just allegation at that point. I really couldn't tell you his thought process.

and i think his age may have something to do with a lot of it. Let's face it, he probably should have retired 10-15 years ago. He's a stubborn old man, he may just have not wanted to deal with it.

I just did.

Look this is simple, its right and wrong.

Yes, he rightly followed the state statute and reported it to his administration as soon as he found out about it. Wrong would have been telling the GA to keep his mouth shut and bring Sandusky some more KY.

Maybe you cant tell the difference between right and wrong.

I know that it's not right to say that reporting a rape to your administration is JUST AS BAD as raping a kid.

So in June of 1998, when Sandusky was being investigated for inappropriate sexual behavior with a minor in the football locker room, I guess Joepa was on vacation and never heard about it .

Spanier needs to step down next and then Joe Pa. What PSU let happen is inexcusable and they have wrought one helluva a much deserved firestorm.

PSU always gets away with murder and is always looked at as some white knight as the school without a major infraction and Paterno is this wise old man that does no wrong. meanwhile, PSU athletes rack up arrests and they cover up child molestation. PSU's image will finally be tarnished and rightfully so

I think he just wanted to relieve himself of the responsibility of turning in his former friend to the people who would do something about it, which in hindsight turned out to be the wrong move.

Different campus. It would be like a coach having a camp at LSU-Eunice's campus. Who the hell would know?

How does that make any difference? Penn State allowed him to have interaction with young boys.

I'm an alum and I'm not defending anyone so quit acting like everyone is defending him. There are alums in my office building calling for him to step down.

"Hi police, this is JoePa. I had a GA come to me last night and say they saw something disturbing. I didn't want to talk to anyone in the administration first, I just wanted to go straight to you guys. I have no way of knowing if these claims are baseless or if something actually happened, but I definitely wanted to immediately call you and let you know that something might have happened. But I don't know what. Have a good one."

If Paterno did that, I would have no problem with him. But he didn't. If a stranger on the street told me my best friend raped a 28 year old, let alone a 10 year old kid, the first thing I would do is call the cops.

You act as if we are defending the rapist. You can't blame people for thinking rational. Get your head out of your arse and face the facts
