I totally disagree with this. You could say the same thing about any team that got sanctions

They got the5 years and should have served them

we do know that. according to JoPa he passed it up the chain one time and then never made any attempt to do anything about it again ever. if you do believe JoPa, he did pass it up to the administration

sure. im not arguing for them to be penalizing today. im arguing that the NCAA was within its right to penalize them back in 2011 and was too lenient IMO. i would have absolutely supported the death pealty even if they didnt qualify as repeat offenders

bingo. annd even then, i would be willing to move on right now if the fanbase, and the school, would do everything they could to distance themselves to JoPa. they dont. they celebrate him. so frick them
Plenty fine to criticize them for their actions in this. Perfectly understandable actually, and I support the criticism. I just take problem with trying to hammer those who aren't responsible.

I don't pretend to be an expert on the matter because I'm not, but I imagine that had to be investigated by the police.

Eh, I would prefer to research more on the topic before I debate the matter of time-frame etc. That said, that's not the main point of this thread I think anyway. I would need to know what happened to the admin that looked the other way.

Honestly punish the university officials don't punish kids who weren't even born when this shite happened

All the people that covered it up are dead or will be punished, correct? If no one there now was involved, why should they be punished?

The NCAA never had any business sticking their nose in the Penn State situation. They enforced sanctions based on a situation which they have no authority over whatsoever.

It was a complete farce

Because the precedent must be set. That type of bs should be a death penalty. I mean, seriously, the fact they are even playing this game is appalling.

Why should the entire program/university have its football program obliterated for the actions of a few? Granted, those actions were awful, but that's why they were punished. Why punish those who were not guilty?

JoePa was there for so long he's family to that school and it's fans. When family fricks up, you still hold a soft spot for them and that's how I view PSU fans with JoePa. I don't think that means they agree with everything that went down, or the way he handled everything, but that doesn't change my initial point.

I would argue that the cover-up of the Sandusky mess had more to do with the football program(protecting it) than any other one thing. But wait, not only did they cover it up...they gave the perv his own office...on campus.

I don't give one single frick about their football program. They setup shop for a pedofile and then looked the other way while he raped little boys in their showers.

Penn State should have paid for their pedophile ring with the death penalty. It's a disgrace that they are actually playing in this game.

Again, those people are dead or out of the program. No one there now had anything to do with it.

I get what you're saying, but this rhetoric implies that football is some sort of currency that can atone for such atrocities, which is sort of the problem in the first place. Penn State's problem was caused largely by their placing too much value on football. If we're still going to worry about football sanctions at this point, we're doing the same thing.

The university got popped for $60million and just this week, for $7million more. Now we're talking.

How could paying a kid or an academic scandal warrant tougher sanctions than what took place at that University?

$$$$

They want more of it.

Prohibiting the athletes from getting money helps the NCAA, media, conferences, and athletic departments keep more of the money. Lifting sanctions on a historic university with a loyal fanbase and alumni also brings in more money.

In case you haven't noticed, college football is all about money.
