FSU during O'leary's era was way better than FSU during Johnson's. North Carolina was good. UVA was good. NC State had a pulse every now and then.
The ACC Coastal is dogshit so getting to conference championships by the winning that doesn't really mean anything. Then Tech loses the bowl like they always do unless Unabomber Kiffin is on the other side.

They're fairly comparable and I can get leaning O'Leary, but saying he was much better is just dumb.

6-7
8-5
7-7
7-6
10-2(Lose this game and lose the bowl like they always do it'll be 10-4)
In the dogshit ACC Coastal. Ya'll can suck that off if you want, I'll pass.

Who would you rather have as a coach?
A:
Teams finished ranked in the top 25 five out of seven years with the highest being 9th
or
B:
Teams finished ranked in the top 25 two out of six time with the highest being 13th

PJ also inherited a much better roster than GOL did. We could spit stats for hours but honestly, as a UGA fan, I'd rather face PJ and that's why I feel like O'Leary was the better coach.

I missed it. What happened?

Still better than that 4th and 8 fake punt run by a D-lineman he called against LSU though.

4th and 6 around midfield they go for it and pass. QB and WR aren't on the same page and he misses him by ten yards. They throw 3 times a game so of course they throw on the biggest play of the game.

WTF? Why not punt the ball with that much time left?

I retract my compliments after that abortion of a call

I was at the game last night and didn't see this thread until right now. It's nice to see that a few people appreciate Paul Johnson's offense considering how many "Who's the next coach at GA Tech?" threads I saw at the beginning of the season. I'm going to bookmark this for when those threads pop up again next year.
To answer the questions raised, I think most Tech fans would still say that the O'Leary era was better mainly because of Joe Hamilton and the three wins in a row over UGA. With that said, the academic restrictions were unquestionably looser in the '90s than they are now, so his recruiting was a lot easier. The 2015 class is supposed to be PJ's best yet, so hopefully we will see that play out on the field.

If they win tonight that'd be 2 Orange Bowls
