Quarterback Patrick Mahomes will restructure his contract, creating $21.6 million of salary cap space for the Kansas City Chiefs as they look to win their third straight Super Bowl, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday.

Mahomes was scheduled to count more than $58 million against the cap before the restructure.

Mahomes, 28, is signed through the 2031 season at a total cost of almost $500 million.

Mahomes restructured his contract before the 2021 season, as well. He signed a revised contract last year that moved up some money he was scheduled to receive in later years of the deal.

All qb contracts are set up to be restructured every year or 2. Not a team player thing. Also more money gets added on

Just about every big contract gets restructured at some point, and it’s not limited to QBs. A 10 year QB contract will definitely get restructured multiple times before it expires.

wrong. he's being a paid to delay plus this really defeats the purpose of salary cap. of course, the salary cap is about as legitimate as the refs in the nfl.

Who said it did? He didn’t have to restructure anything, but he did. Over $20 million isn’t a small bit of money to move around either.
