Yes, Paterno was likely too busy teaching leadership skills to be distracted by a little child rape.
this whole thing reeks of "out of sight, out of mind."

Agreed. Why is this not the headline?

Bingo. Joe Pa's arrogance knew no limits. He was asked to resign for the good of the university when he was 78 and refused. He needed to resign for the good of the university today and instead forced the board to fire him, causing campus riots and bad blood that the university may never recover from.
Joe Pa loved Penn St, but even more than Penn St, he loved himself. And like a crazy, overprotective husband, if he was going down, his wife was going down with him. PSU was his bitch and no one was going to tell Joe Pa how to treat her.

And the channel with sports knowledge knows nothing about reporting.

Don't get me wrong, I literally hate this happened to JoPa, but he brought it on himself. Really wish it had ended another way.

I don't freaking know and the more I think about it the more pissed i get.
I don't know why I feel so betrayed. I really thought he was a good, admirable guy.

Bye Paterno. You were a guy that ppl strived to be like. All the while you ignored or allowed some scumbag to have his way with children in your football complex.

Same. I can't imagine what it must feel like to work your entire life and have your entire legacy destroyed it 48 hours. He brought it upon yourself, but still thats something hard to imagine.

Not to be a dick, but how long do you think Joe Pa will live with all this on top of not being able to coach.
Joe Pa hasn't been a coach in years. On top of how fricking obvious it is Joe Pa's a figurehead (eating popcorn in the booth during the Bama game, anyone?), I'm in-laws with a dude who played for Penn State in the late 90s...and, oh hell yeah, Joe Pa's nothing but a dottering old figurehead and has been for years. He should have retired a decade ago (at least), and his refusal to do so--to the detriment of the football program he supposedly loves--is testament to his ego and to the fact that at this point it's all about HIM, not the team. It does not surprise me that he heard 'bad news' and effectively looked the other way. I'm just shocked that the board actually had the balls to do something about it, quite honestly.
