And they wonder why college football is falling off a cliff.

It would be dumb not to to this to all the top programs.

Give Smith a decision, and make OSU match some bigger offers.

It seems like this has happened with some Alabama guys. A guy like Haynes comes to mind. Underperformed at Alabama and didn’t look very dynamic, although the OL wasn’t great.

I believe a program came through and offered him $500,000. Alabama had a number in mind and $500k was more than they were willing to pay to keep him. Now someone has a young RB who was a top 5* prospect, a good kid, and a year’s experience at a top program for a bargain(maybe?).

Smith won’t be chasing the highest bidder. Miami was already offering him more coming out of high school.

Now if Hartline leaves, I’m sure that would change things.

This coming from an OSU (or any major P5 school fan for that matter) is hilarious

If I were he, I wouldn't play another down of college football.

Go to the courts who have shown they have changed on these matters, and sue to be allowed in the 2024 draft. He is perhaps the #1 overall pick this year.

This trips people up every time but the NFL draft rule is an NFL rule, not an NCAA rule. There’s no case to make and Maurice already got dunked on trying it anyway

That's age discrimination and likely unconstitutional.

That is nowhere close to age discrimination man

Dust off a civics book

quote:

Age discrimination involves treating an applicant or employee less favorably because of his or her age. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older. It does not protect workers under the age of 40, although some states have laws that protect younger workers from age discrimination. It is not illegal for an employer or other covered entity to favor an older worker over a younger one, even if both workers are age 40 or older. Discrimination can occur when the victim and the person who inflicted the discrimination are both over 40.

You might want to dust it off. 48 of 50 states extend the ADEA in some fashion to individuals under the age of 40.

I wonder why that gets upheld and all of their other rules are crushed in court. It has to be worth another try as the landscape has shifted.

Because there’s a big difference in suing the NCAA over their player restriction in CFB vs suing a private business in the NFL having prerequisites to being eligible to be eligible for their draft.

I think if someone challenged it again it could get overturned. Especially if they can get it to the Supreme Court

Yeah that’s broadly mentioned in what I posted

We’ve moved drastically from “likely unconstitutional” to “most states do have an exception for those under 40”

Those exceptions are not inclusive of the NFLs situation and federal law supersedes state law so I’m confused why you think state laws there would matter to the NFL in this case.

You’d have a much better chance arguing the NFL draft as a whole is an illegitimate process, but the draft rule isn’t going to be touched in courts, and certainly not from the age discrimination act

Challenge what exactly

ETA to be more clear and to add to my prev post, there’s an interesting argument to make about the draft as a whole but the “age discrimination” thing is not the interesting argument to make

The NFL and most sports league have a completely illegal business model that they have federal exceptions to allow them to operate. If that ever changes then yeah this could all change- but I don’t see why anyone would have a reason to change this either in the courts or by rule. Both the NFL and lawmakers are on the same side of this issue and it ain’t on the side of the player

They would be stupid to leave Ohio State and go to a lesser program with lesser coaches & facilities.
And then what, transfer again next year ?
Stay at OSU & let them get you ready to go in the 1st Round like their WR's always do.
