lol, no I don't think he is. I think he just said it b/c everyone was saying how the rough was going to be 6" tall and thick. He went through a hole by hole break down yesterday and had a couple of pictures and videos.

Well they can just leave the mowers out of the rough between now and Thursday, and next thing you know it is brutal

From the looks of things this course is going to be hard as hell, so hopefully the USGA has learned from past mistakes and will try to make it "tough yet fair"

Well if the rough isn't terribly punishing I don't see what's so tough about the course. No water and no fairway bunkers.

No doubt about that, and I'm sure they'll keep those mowers on the fairways and greens only from here on. Just relaying info from someone out there though

Two things:

narrow long holes
tough green complexes

You can't spin the ball from the rough, much less 4 inches of rough.

looks like they tee off at 7:30 in the A.M.. A better shot at seeing them on Friday for me.

I think those are Pacific times, so it would really be 9:30 am here.

It is really about how the ball sits in the rough. If the rough is 6 inches but so thick that balls sit up, it isn't near about as bad as thin rough that balls sink to the bottom on. Trust me they have some golfers hitting out of the rough to test it out and see how it goes. I think players with steep swings are going to have a decided advantage over sweepers.
Also what type of bounce you think they will be playing with this weekend? I imagine some of those wedges will look like knife blades, trying to cut it out of the rough.

A guy from my HS, Jordan Spieth, just got a spot as an alternate yesterday. I'm pretty pumped to watch him play hopefully a hole or two during the coverage. Obviously I don't expect him to make any noise really, but I have a feeling he'll be playing in a lot of these.

He just helped UT win the team NCAA championship.

The masters is a pretty tight course also.

I used to think this until I saw the course in person. With a few exceptions, Augusta is fairly wide open off the tee.

And if you miss the fairway, you still have a chance at some great shots, ie Bubba Watson, Phil

I just don't see that happening with US Open rough
