Rafa needs to play his A game to beat Novak every time they play. The margins in this match were so tight until the very end.

This was kind of disappointing. I wanted to see a battle. Novak didn't show up

What kind of watch was that that Nadal had on?

It's a Richard Mille. It goes for $690,000.

I've been watching tennis for 50 years. Absolutely no doubt in my mind that Nadal is the best I've ever seen, and is surely the greatest of all time. A supreme talent who works harder than anybody else is a devastating combination.

I think Rafa is the best ever. The difference between him and other great players is his relentless competitiveness. Jimmy Connors said "Rafa plays every point like he's broke". And that's what sets him apart in my mind, and why I'm a fan.

I just disagree. He can get away with spinning that ball in and play defense when the going gets tough. 2011 Novak made him pay for that. 2013 Novak didn't. The thing that blows my mind is you'd think the guy playing a bit more defensive would wear out, but the guy trying to dictate play ends up punking out.

I agree here. Those two are very much the same. Rafa just was better tonight.

If he'd never gotten injured I wonder how many titles he'd have now.

That's I'm a fan as well.

I also think it's why, like you mentioned, he's probably the GOAT when it comes to break points, on both sides. He simply doesn't tighten up or change anything.

Everything is break point to this dude.

This one had the makings of a classic, but Novak just fizzled out in the fourth set. Rafa just makes you win every point. To me, that is what separates him from most tennis players. The guy doesn't just play for an early break and then hold serve through the set. He wants to win every damn point in the match.

Up a break, chance to go up a double break, triple break point to go back up a break and serve for the match.

Djokovic won't recover from that.

Finally watching this on DVR and can't believe Djoko blew that shite

Nadal is up 3-0 in the 4th set where I'm at right now and I can't imagine Djoko comes back. What's up with all the unforced errors on Djoko this year?

When Djoke goes GOAT mode he basically paints lines with every shot. It's simply not sustainable, so when he tries to do that all match he'll eventually start spraying shite.

But Rafa played a hell of a match. Sucks to see that Djoko was 1 point from the 3rd set and just came crashing down

Congrats to Nadal

That's the mode he was in during the third set. I still can't figure out how Nadal won that set.

Seriously. Djoke's beastmode is just frightening.

I disagree with this. Him spraying shite has nothing to do with him trying to sustain his beastmode. He sprayed shite because he was mentally unravelling.

Career break points converted leaders (all time):

1. Guillermo Coria 1355 2963 46 324
2. Rafael Nadal 2931 6487 45 747

The year 2009 is the one that bugs me. He was the best in 2008 and 2010. 2008-2010 could have been an incredible run.

I watched this match, and to me, the joker was really nervous from the get go. In the second set, Rafa started playing that stupid slice that I HATE, playing not to lose, not being aggressive enough, and the joker took advantage of that. Joker pushed him around, and got confident.
In the third, when the joker was pushing Rafa so much, that he was literally in his butt a couple of times, down 0-40 about to lose the set (a break at that point would have been fatal), Rafa got pissed and got aggressive again. Holding that game mentally destroyed Djokovic. He just realized Rafa was going to win, and there was nothing he could do about it, or so he thought.

Rafa is the GOAT. No doubt in my mind. Nobody has the desire to win, and compete every single point, and the physical ability to sustain a ridiculous level of play, with very little mistakes like he does. Tennis is 90% mental, and he is the best. Roger is better with the 10%.
