Silva was dominated in early round 1 ad taunted because he wanted no part of being taken down again. The fight was never e en close. That was a dominant performance which led to a desperate silva trying to toe weidman o of his game and although he did weidman still clocked him

he does that out of habit from being the fastest in the ring and making the other guy make a mistake. just like when guys fight with low hands, its only a matter of time before it bites you in the arse.

I was thinking of Maia and the other shitty fight he had where he was doing that. Sonnen has great takedowns, so I think Anderson realized that in the second fight and decided he better be more aggressive standing up. Not to mention I actually think Sonnen got under his skin.

He usually does that because his reach is larger and he is drastically quicker than his opponents. To get a punch in you have to get way inside his range. 99% of the time he catches guys reaching to touch him or loading up a knockout punch which he dodges and counters.
But he really does it around the midpoint of the round to kill time so that he only has to do a quick flurry at the end to score punches/points and win the round should it go to a decision.
It's the Brazilian version of Greg Jackson's patented land two punches and one fence clinch to win round one, forcing your opponent to take extra chances to try and win rounds 2&3.
