The Jays pulled their offer of 4/80 and the Yankees,Red Sox, Astros already have bowed out as well. NL teams will hesitate to give him a long term deal cause he won't be able to play the field in a year or two. His market at the moment is the rangers and Indians who I doubt will go long term at big dollars

Jeff said his market had cratered not that Edwin asked for that. He turned down 4/80 and was looking for atleast 5/100.

Despite his age and limited market (AL DH), Edwin has been one of baseball's best hitters for five years. I think he has like a .912 OPS and 147 wRC+ (MVP contender if Mike Trout did not exist).
I would like to see him get paid, but I understand it might not be the smartest contract.

Maybe there was something on a physical? It's a no brainer on paper unless there's some serious medical red flag or something

It's got to be something like that because I know the Rangers at least have a hole at 1B and DH right now (although they like to rotate their DH, but still)
But you go Gomez, Andrus, Beltre, Edwin, Lucroy, Odor (just a guess), that's a scary front 6

Ian Desmond to the Rockies

That will be a fun hitting lineup at least
So does that mean the Rangers get the #11 pick?

Apparently Desmond got 5 - 70 mil

Texas doesn't want to to give up the draft pick for signing Edwin. That is the big issue there.

Wow

They might be more likely to go after EE now after getting the draft pick from the Desmond signing.

Since they just acquired a draft pick for Desmond, maybe they are more open to losing a draft pick now.

I thought the sandwich is only if the Rockies sign a higher-level free agent than Desmond

Nats are going to miss Ramos. A lot.

That is a lot of money for Ian Desmond.

Looks more than fair to me. I thought he was going to land a 60/4 deal this off season. 70/5 looks good for both parties.

I’m skeptical. Outside of a great first half last year, he has been brutal at the plate the past two years. Steamer projects him with just 1.5 WAR in 2017. I’d probably take the over on that, but I don’t think I would have committed $70 million to him.

How much Ian Desmond hate himself for turning down that 7/107 extension after 2014 with the Nationals?
