I read in SI that they were considering cuts due to losing money, but I haven't seen anything that indicated they were going to go ahead and do that.

Stanford has an endowment of 17.2 Billion, so throwing some chump change at Harbaugh could and probably would, make the program a viable contender for the conference championship and maybe more.

They have the facilities, the coach, now they're getting some athletes (see Tyler Gaffney). It would be crazy not to invest more in football, which is for some if not most of the major powers in D-1, a money maker good enough to fund most of the other sports.
