The Lakers can still get anywhere from 6th to 9th in the West.

Records:

Houston 45-35 (2-1 vs. LA - game 4 on Wednesday)
Golden State 45-35 (1-3 vs. LA)
Los Angeles 44-37
Utah 42-38 (2-1 vs. LA)

Games remaining:

Houston: @ Phoenix
Golden State: San Antonio, @ Portland
Los Angeles: Houston
Utah: @ Minnesota, @ Memphis

Relevant tiebreakers:

1. Overall record
2. Head-to-head record
3. Conference record

Conference record only comes into play with Houston because Utah has a better head-to-head and Golden State has a worse head-to-head. Houston is 24-26 in conference, while the Lakers are 27-24.

If Houston loses their last two games, then the Lakers will jump them in the seeding. If Golden State loses their last two games, then the Lakers will jump them in the seeding.

On January 24th, the Lakers were 12th in the West with a 17-25 record and were 15.5 games behind OKC, who were leading the conference with a 33-10 record.

Since then, the Lakers have gone 27-12 and the Thunder have went 26-11, as the Lakers to remain 15.5 games back of the conference leader.

What a turnaround

The point is my post is that there is a relatively decent chance the Lakers could avoid the Thunder in the first round because OKC would bash their skulls in.

Do not want that 6th seed. Avoid it like the plague

Not as bad as the 8th seed (or the 9th).

At least the Nuggets are beat up as well right now.

Denver is legit.

Also, I hate that we don't get to see a Kobe led Lakers team make noise in the playoffs. They'd push anybody to at least 6 games, I'm convinced. Shame we didn't get to see it.

Too bad LA took forever to get going. Had they been a little more consistent early on, D'Antoni probably wouldn't have run Kobe into the ground.

Who are we kidding? Of course he would've. He doesn't know any other way.

Denver would feast on the Lakers atrocious transition defense. It is a matchup nightmare, almost as bad as OKC.

I really wish we could have seen what this team could have done if they had stayed healthy and had a coach that didn't force a style that didn't work.

Nash missed half the season. Blake missed half the season. Pau missed half the season. Hill missed almost all of the season. Dwight wasn't 100% all season. MWP missed some time. Kobe missed some time.

A team that started the season with Dwight, Pau, and Hill had to start Robert Sacre for 3 games with Earl Clark at backup C

I was only hoping for that match-up if and only if Faried is out. Plus, they simply do not lose at home. Denver has the best home record in the league.

Honestly, they are probably a one-and-done team this year, but they have the potential to be a contender in the West next season if they were to somehow stay together and Kobe comes back early in the season.

It has been one of the more unusual seasons that I can ever remember, almost just from an injury standard.

And how much better would it be if the Lakers hadnt had these inexcusable losses:

@ Portland
@ Sacramento
Orlando
@ Cleveland
@ Philly
@ Toronto
@ Phoenix - (Twice)

That is 8 losses right there. They wouldnt have been any better than the 6th seed right now, but they would have clinched a playoff berth sooner and would have been able to rest their players going into the post season

This one is excusable. The Lakers never win in Rip City.

Although it better not be against my Thunder but it would be so funny if they make a run in the playoffs without Mamba.

I know they never do, but it was the 2nd game of the year for the Lakers while it was the Blazers first game of the year, with a rookie point guard and 7 other newcomers playing for them.

I think gasol is definitely gone. We need an offensive threat on the wing for next year

so we can still possibly see a clippers laker matchup in the playoffs
bc the clipper can still get the three seed and the lakers still get the sixth

Damn.

OKC - LA first round could be very interesting. Although I still see OKC winning in 5 maybe 6 because Westbrook kills the Lakers.
