You guys who keep saying the top teams are the same need to understand we are in the infancy stages of NIL and portal. It’s really only been the past 2 seasons where the majority of teams have jumped in. And as was pointed by another, the top teams are no where near as strong as they were just 4-5 years ago. The Bama’s, UGA’s, and Clemson’s of the past decade would destroy the top teams today.

And that is making the sport healthier. Having fanbases who were dwindling and dying on the vine because they didn’t embrace the bagman have seen a resurgence. Look at Vandy, Indiana, and GT as just a few examples. It’s a much better sport when everyone can compete and we don’t have constant scores of 55-3 for conference games.

Indiana, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, and Vanderbilt (VANDERBILT) are all in the top 10

With Virginia, Missouri, and Texas Tech lurking

i think the 12 team playoff plays a role in this too. It opened the door for lessor programs historically to be relevant in November in ways that was impossible prior to it, when 1 or 2 loses would knock you out of NC picture or rose bowl pipe dreams

The new clock rules have almost as much impact. More possessions = greater chance for the more talented teams to pull away. Less possessions/game = closer games.
