Has anyone ever got a title shot coming off a lose?

quote:

Georges St-Pierre was out of action for 19 months between his win over Jake Shields and his successful return against Carlos Condit last month at UFC 154, but he's looking to make a quick turnaround for his next bout.

According to UFC President Dana White, via MMAFighting.com, the UFC has offered GSP and Nick Diaz a bout against one another at UFC 158 in Montreal this March, though the fight has not been signed as of yet.

St-Pierre requested the Diaz fight after defeating Condit, as it was the fight he was initially supposed to have last October. Diaz had gotten under St-Pierre's skin with his trash talking, and the Welterweight Champ hasn't quite let it go. Diaz lost a decision to Condit in February for the Interim Welterweight Championship, and has been serving a suspension out of that bout due to a positive test for marijuana metabolites.

Johny Hendricks had hoped to get the next shot at St-Pierre, believing his knockout over Martin Kampmann moved him in line. However, given the close nature of the Diaz-Condit bout, St-Pierre's camp still wants to face off against him, leaving Hendricks on the outside looking in.

Wow. Hendricks has every right to be pissed. I guess losing a fight + testing positive for drugs > beating 3 top 5 guys in a row.

Edit: And yeah, Troll Sonnen is getting the shot against Bones at 205 after getting his arse beat by Anderson at 185 in his last fight.

I'm gonna laugh when Chael gets injured & Nick backs out a second time. Maybe Dana and company will start giving title shots to those who actually deserve it......

Eta: Edgar is getting a title shot as well

gonna be another nice decision from gsp taking diaz down every round and pretty much just punching until the round is over. Hendricks should have gotten this title shot and it would have been a much better fight.

This shite is getting ridiculous. The UFC is supposed to be the highest level in the sport, not some half-assed wrestling promotion like Pride was.

The fanbase in the UFC is what causes this. Your affliction wearing dumb tough guys are the demographic they are catering to.

how is he going to? It is highly unlikely GSP gets caught in a submission, I don't see Diaz stopping GSPs takedowns, and even though Diaz's standup is good I don't see him knocking out GSP because he likes to accumulate shots on his opponents and with GSPs boxing I don't see that happening to him. I'd love to see Hendricks fight GSP because his wrestling is very good and I think he could stay off the mat for the most part. He has dangerous one punch knockout power that could finish GSP. GSP might be able to pick him apart on the feet with his boxing but I still think its a much better matchup than Diaz GSP

Yeah, all those Fitch GSP and GSP vs the PA guy(blonde hair dude) were sooo exciting to see wrestlers wrestling for 5 rounds. Sure there was a black eye or two... but really? I want to see Diaz and GSP because it would be something exciting to talk about. Either GSP does what we all think and shuts Diaz up for good... or he doesn't and then Hendricks gets him... KK?

Fitch had no standup whatsoever and koshcheck (spelling is wrong) was a person who relied more on his wrestling and played right into GSPS strengths. Hendricks has great wrestling but he likes to bang more on the feet. I don't want dumbasses like Diaz being rewarded after walking out on the UFC just because a decision didn't go his way. He lost his last fight and shouldn't even be in the conversation for a championship fight.

Meh Hendricks is overrated I bet if he and Fitch fought again Fitch would dominate him.

UFC went downhill starting with UFC 100 when the sport officially went mainstream.

Hendricks has been extremely impressive. His crazy power and great wrestling would give Fitch problems 10/10 times.

That said, the fight I want to see is GSP-Diaz. Diaz has a style that gives him a great chance against GSP. I think his overwhelming boxing style and ability to fight off his back will make this an interesting fight.

I'd still give GSP a 65% chance of winning.

I think Fitch would put him on his back repeatedly if they fought again

I thought Dana promised that if GSP won his last fight he was going to have GSP and Spider Silva fight in the Cowboys stadium? Am I making that up or did I miss something?

Good fight but where does this leave Fitch? Hopefully he gets a rematch with Hendricks.

He also promised that the Hendricks/Kampmann winner would get the next title shot...
