Though any single seasons provides an inadequate sample size, there were ten teams last year who had 50% or higher success rates when going for two. It is not crazy to assume that there is a Team A who, when matched up with a Team B, would have a higher-than-50% rate if they played a bazillion times.

Because averages don't work like that. 50% doesn't mean you make one then miss one and on and on. It means you could miss 4 and then make 4, etc. Do you want to be the coach who tried and missed 4 2-point conversions in a game?
This. All of it. Averaging out your success rate for 2PC in a blowout is little consolation if you lost by 2 the previous week after missing 2 of them

Ask Mike Smith about mindless punting on 4th down. He doesn't believe in it. It hasn't worked out well for him.

I will say, however, if you're one of the top offenses in the NFL, and you're playing against one of the bottom defenses in the NFL, and you get through with that first drive and think "we've got their number," go for it.
NO. Never in the first half... and never when up by more than 7 after the touchdown
if you're the top offense playing a bottom defense, you shouldn't feel like you have to go for 2 at any point in the game

This may be a dumb way of looking at it but it ran across my brain
So if you go for two every time over a season, according to the OP youd get about 50 percent of those attempts, right?
Well with an NFL Kicker, if you kick the Extra point everytime, youre looking at the a high 90 percentage on making those, more than likely youll go 100 percent....so if my simple math is correct , both senerios, the two teams would score about the same amount of points after a touchdown throughout a season (if they both scored the same amount of TDs)
Soo um, what would be the point?
