IMO & IMHO, Russell had no chance with Oakland. He needed to get in the league, sit for a year or two and learn a system. He had a hell of an arm, but not much touch.

Cam Newton is a better "passer", but not by much and doesn't quite have a cannon for an arm. He is a better runner however.

I think much like Russell, Newton has to go to the right situation.

Ive got them as both black QB's that will go high in the draft. Thats about it as far as the way they play/played the game.

??? Decently?

Jamarcus had one of the highest completion rates in SEC history

67.8 5th All Time SEC for a season (2006)
61.7 9th All Time SEC career

Well he was throwing to 3 NFL caliber receivers at once including some guy named Bowe. When JR played teams with decent and below average secondaries he dominated. When he played teams with NFL caliber players on defense he struggled.

My take on Russell is he never wanted to go to Oakland so he sat out for the most money he could possibly could get. He then gave it a shot and tried to be the QB but he just didn't want to be in Oakland.

He then followed some advice or decided on his own to play badly and get out of Oakland. He did such a good job of it he got fat and lazy and then became the media punching bag for draft busts and no one wanted him.

In the end he did get paid and for that he was a success.

Edit

He is about to lose his house in Oakland.
