I thought they sort of already were. Wasn’t there some kid who went around finding NL players and getting them their MLB pension?

So now Josh Gibson is the career home run leader?

Let's hope so. Anything to dethrone that little shite who currently wears that crown.

I think only 1/6th of those HRs were actually verified.

I guess while we are at it, you can put Satchel Paige's "120 mph fastball" in the Guinness Book of World Records.

So would that make Charley Pride one of the first former players to also be a club owner? (He owned part of the Texas Rangers for the longest time)

That's the problem over the years - and as evidenced in Ken Burn's doc with similar stories.

The league to promote itself was full of tall-tales and those have just gotten passed down because you can't refute them. Some of the Negro League stats are more folklore than reality. Just like Babe Ruth's called shot.

One of my favorite "tall-tales" was Paige describing Cool Papa Bell's speed who he claimed was faster than Jesse Owens.

"One time he hit a line drive right past my ear. I turned around and saw the ball hit his arse sliding into second"

Would have loved to see Oscar Charleston play though.

Overdue in what way. The negro league records are suspect and they played against inferior pitching.

It's pc culture at its worst.
