Any college tennis fans/followers of the NCAA tournament?

Predictions for the tournament? Can anyone other than USC, UVa, or UGa win this thing?

I followed it really closely last year when the Vols had a shot. I probably won't follow it as closely this year.

I don't think anyone other than the three you mentioned can win it. I think UVA will win it, but I thought UVA would win it last year too.

UGA is that good LSU should have beat them this year and they are a whole bunch of pushers and they didn't even make the sec watch for UK to make a run

It's not definite.

UVA is stacked. They have this freshmen, Mitchell Frank, who will give Steve Johnson a run for his money in the singles competition. He plays #3 for them.

Current ITA singles rankings:
Rank Avg Player School
1 65.25 Steve Johnson University of Southern California
2 61.99 Mitchell Frank University of Virginia
3 57.19 Eric Quigley University of Kentucky
4 54.7 Jarmere Jenkins University of Virginia
5 52.64 Henrique Cunha Duke University
6 48.61 Evan King University of Michigan
7 45.85 Dennis Nevolo University of Illinois
8 45.51 Sebastian Fanselow Pepperdine
9 44.98 Blaz Rola Ohio State University
10 42.59 Chase Buchanan Ohio State University
11 41.23 Wil Spencer University of Georgia

UGa isn't great. UK is IMO

In the ACC championship Domijan was at #2 and Frank at #3. But it isn't uncommon for guys to be moved around a little bit.

Rhyne Williams played both #1 and #2 for Tennessee last year. But he ended up playing the majority of the season at #2 even though he was clearly the best singles player on the team (and made it to the NCAA finals before losing to Johnson). This ended up being a bad strategic move. Tennessee likely wouldn't have lost to UGA in the quarters with Williams playing #1. Oh well.

I'd be shocked if SC loses. This team is much stronger than the past 3. They won national indoors without much trouble. Only close match all year was a fluke 4-3 loss to UCLA

Only reason why i included UGa is b/c they are hosting the tourney and will be tough to beat at home.

UVA is loaded, but they have been loaded for the last few years and seem to always come up short. Despite holding the #1 spot in the computer rankings for most of the season, Frank has played #3 for the Hoos most of the year. UVA, just like UGA, has struggled mightily most of the season.

USC is the clear favorite simply b/c they will be extremely tough to be beat on the doubles, whereas the other top teams often give up that point, and then Steve Johnson is the most lock down point in the country at the one spot. USC basically starts out 2-0 on every team.

They've only lost one match. That was to tOSU back in February.

They're ranked #2

Rank Avg School
1 86.90 University of Southern California
2 77.00 University of Virginia
3 76.70 University of Georgia
4 75.11 UCLA
5 73.51 Ohio State University

I agree. But I don't see how that has any bearing on this year.

Not if Johnson plays a slow grind-it-out 3-setter. UVA could win 4 matches while Johnson is still on the court.

I agree USC is the favorite, btw.

But I would like to see someone else step up and win it this year.

Sorry, I mistyped and didn't complete the sentence. Both UVa and UGa have struggled on the doubles point most of the year. USC has not. Otherwise, UVa has rolled.

Indoor finals against OSU was actually a pretty close match...so not sure I would say they won it without much trouble.

For those saying OSU will win it, they have a tough draw with UCLA in quarters followed by USC in semi-finals.
