is there any particular reason why there's so much coverage of the nba summer league this year, as opposed to past seasons? just flipped thru the channels, and saw a game on espn2. the arena was actually more full than the WNBA. also, a lot more reporting on espn

I'm not sure why they didn't have much coverage of it before this year on ESPN. It was mostly on NBA TV the past few years. I'd rather watch it than World Series of Poker reruns.

I was wondering the same thing

I assume it has something to do with the new TV deal. I think they are going to show some DLeague games occasionally now too.

They've had D League games on ESPNU for a few years now.

Basketball is getting more popular. People want to see the top draft picks play.

Absolutely. The NBA is quickly closing the gap between it and the NFL. The league's globalization efforts have really been astonishing. It started with the Dream Team exposing the game to countries around the world, and you can see the subsequent impact in the number of foreign players and even team ownership.
The business of basketball is booming, and I love it. Summer league is decent television that's bridging the gap between the Finals and NFL preseason

now you only got to wait 2 weeks to realize your 6th pick overall is hot garbabe instead of 5 months

It's a sad possibility that you can see given player is obviously not ready for nba once versus other rookies and young players in summer league.
