Nerlens Noel: The Other Rookie of the Year | Grantland
quote:
Not only does Noel lead all rookies in rebounds, blocks, and steals, he’s also the only NBA player in the top 10 in both blocks (eighth) and steals (10th). That’s not, you know, normal.
quote:
Since the All-Star break, Noel has averaged 11.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, and 2.8 steals a night. He rejected nine shots in a game against the Pacers last month. In the Sixers’ recent upset of the Hawks, he amassed 11 points, 17 rebounds, and five steals. (He has an absurd total of 19 acts of thievery in his last four games.)
quote:
Basically, he’s a 6-foot-11, 228-pound cable of razor wire that stretches from the rim to the 3-point line, with a 7-foot-4 wingspan and tightly coiled springiness. He ends up at locations and altitudes far more rapidly than opponents expect. On a single possession, he might poke the rock away from a point guard, swipe at the dribble of a big man posting up, and then bound across the paint to alter a shot as the weakside helper. According to Brown, Noel’s exceptional attributes include ambidextrous shot-blocking, an uncanny sense of timing, and a pogo-stick second jump. Plus, with the NBA’s emphasis on pick-and-rolls, the ability for a center to switch onto point guards is critical when assembling an effective modern defense.
quote:
He’s not rising with bland, Hibbert-ian verticality. The Eraser is coming to punch your shite.
quote:
Advanced metrics support the eye test. Noel’s Defensive Box Plus/Minus ranking is second in the NBA, his Defensive Rating is eighth, and, according to SportVU player tracking, opponents shoot only 45 percent at the basket against him, which places him in elite rim-protector territory. The Sixers surrender 99.5 points per 100 possessions when he’s on the floor — which is slightly better than the Rockets and Blazers, the third- and fourth-best defenses in the league.

Meanwhile in New Orleans...

Green hasn't been very good.

I just don't think they are using him right at all. He's looked fantastic as a backup 4 and I think should just be the team's 6th man.
He's been a 40+% 3 point shooter from the corners, but he doesn't take nearly enough of them. He relies too much on the 3's from the wings which he isn't great at.
The Lee/Green unit has been a disaster for the most part, but when he plays next to Tony Allen they have been surprisingly effective.

When this unit is in it looks exactly like Rudy Gay led Memphis.

I just don't get why Joerger is so reluctant to go back to the TA/Lee starting lineup. It worked really well.
TA knows how to operate off of Marc & Zbo. CLee is forced to take more shots.

I think last night may have changed his mind. I think we all wanted Jeff Green to come in and just be a better Tayshaun but he has just been a worse Rudy. I think it is really clear that Green should come in for Lee as the first sub.
So are we going to get a taste of Russ Smith tonight?

I haven't seen if he has been called up yet or not. I'm just excited to watch Jordan Adams get some extended minutes.
Hopefully they can get VC and Beno going too. Beno has been a bit off lately.

You talked specifically about the Grizzlies in your OP.
Homer.

I expect absolutely nothing from Vince Carter the rest of the year. He is literally a body to throw onto the court at this point and I'd rather see Jordan Adams get his minutes. He just is running around with 10 pound weights on each ankle.
Beno has been off but if he can angulate his body on every shot we should be OK.

Why do they "badly" need the 2 seed?
Posted on 3/12/15 at 3:34 pm to RTR America
1. Golden State
2. Memphis
3. Portland
4. Houston
5. Clippers
6. Spurs
7. Dallas
8. NOLA
Idk why they need the 2 seed but I do know why they don't want the 3 seed

Cleveland going in tonight on the Spurs
You and I can only hope. At the very least, it should be highly entertaining with lots of points and offense. The Cavs are nearly unstoppable when JR and Love shoot like they did against Dallas on Tuesday. That's just an added dimension that is a nightmare for opponents.

You can see why they need to sit some guys. Plus I think Joerger is trying to use this a motivational tactic because Marc and Zbo are sort of coasting right now
I get after the Celts game you say this, but Marc played well against the Bulls.
