I'm going against Chestnut this year. He's been on IR and hasn't been practicing like he usually does.

quote:

While Chestnut is the marquee name, 2022 also marks the return of a legend in the women’s contest. Miki Sudo is returning to the contest after missing 2021 due to pregnancy. Sudo has won seven of the last eight contests, and currently holds the world record for women with 48.5 hot dogs with buns. Last year’s winner Michele Lasco, frankly, won because Sudo didn’t compete — taking home with the prize with 30.25. The idea anyone will challenge in the women’s draw outside of Sudo is unthinkable.

quote:

For the first time, ESPN "SportsCenter" anchor John Anderson will do the play-by-play of the holiday contest along with an in-depth analysis by Major League Eating’s chairman Richard Shea.

The men don't start until 11am CT, so if you like meaningless background stories I wouldn't tune in until then

Chestnut is perhaps the greatest eater in the history of the world. Who can beat him?

He’s the best but the most influential was Kobayashi.

Kobayashi had a mental breakdown after he lost to Chestnut.

Speed yes. Mass wise, check out Joel Hansen and Geoff Esper on YouTube. Dudes are absolutely insane. Esper has beaten Joey in multiple contests as well. Joey has just perfected the speed eating of a hotdog

This sporting event packs more endurance and mental concentration than many more mainstream sports like professional golf and baseball (with the exception of the pitcher). Only combat sports like boxing and MMA can compare in intensity.

The 50 glass ceiling is real.

But she has a hand injury and is only eating for one this year. I get it.

We shall see!

Esper v Joey is just one layer of this extravaganza. I think of all the youngsters watching online and on tv and will be inspired to pursue a career in the sport, perhaps one day appearing on the big stage.

Let’s gooooo!!!!!

I’ve watched a few of Hansen’s videos. He eats a lot but is very slow. I don’t think he could win any competitions he doesn’t have the speed needed.
