South Alabama plays William Carey tonight and I looked to see if WC was ranked. They are not but I noticed Louisiana has the most teams ranked in the preseason coaches poll.

Have Louisiana NAIA basketball teams always been this good? I remember some good teams from Loyola (Southern States Conference) coming to Mobile from time to time but didn't know the two LSU school's were so good.

#6 LSU Shreveport
#13 LSU Alexandria
#16 Loyola
#20 Xavier
Receiving votes Dillard

Xavier and Louisiana College (currently in the NCAA D3 & American Southwest Conference but jumping back to NAIA) are joining LSUA & LSUS conference (Red River Athletic Conference) next season

Xavier's currently in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference with the likes of Dillard... but that conference is dying a slow & painful death

the GCAC used to have all of Loyola, William Carey, Dillard, SUNO, Xavier, & LSUS

LSUA has only had a team for like 6 seasons... qualified for the NAIA National Tournament all 6 years... made 2 "Fab Fours" (semifinals) and 1 championship game appearance (lost on a buzzer beater in OT)

ETA: considering LSUA & Louisiana College are only like 5 miles away from each other as the crow flies... when LC joins the RRAC... that rivalry is going to be fun

yea I went to lots of games back in the day.

William Carey used to have Pistol Pete's kid playing for them.

LSUS and Mobile used to have a pretty heated albeit short rivalry

in the 2018 national tournament... LSUS was in the semifinal while LSUA made the finals

Shreveport screwed us out of an all-Louisiana championship game

I went to Loyola (worked in the athletics office while a student)... there's a somewhat legendary game where Pistol Pete's kid and a Loyola player just went back & forth all game long

I wish I could remember which Loyola player it was with

ETA: I was a student long after the fact... it's a game that's still talked about decades later

in fact... LSUA's playing at ULL tonight

I'm sure it counts for ULL but is an exhibition for LSUA

LSU-A was actually leading at halftime. Reminder that SFA was 28-3 last season and beat Duke at Cameron.

I know LSUA very well as I worked there for the last few years

this is supposed to be perhaps their weakest team in the program's young history due to a lack of significant JUCO/DI transfers and focusing more on the "home grown" talent

Coach Cordaro's gonna have his toughest coaching job yet

Loyola's already gone to "The Fort" and beaten LSUA (only 2 or 3 other teams have done that over 6 years... LSUA's home record is really quite an impressive stat)... and LSUA had a huge comeback win at home over Mobile
