I guarantee you that in terms of total attendance, the NCAA whups it all over the NFL. After all, there are 50+ IA games a week, and innumerable IAA, II, and III games. Whereas the NFL only has 15 games a week.

And, yeah, the Steelers may be sold out of tickets until 2026, but it only holds 65,000 or so. So even if there's 35,000 people on the waiting list, that puts them equal to Michigan or Tenneessee's 100,000+ stadiums (stadia?).

Just stop. We all here prefer CFB, but the NFL is vastly more popular.

Where the NFL and College exist in the same city the NFL greatly trumps college. Sharing a city tends to hurt a college.

Who is more popular in New Jersey Jets/Giants or Rutgers?

More popular in Atlanta Falcons or Georgia Tech?

For most cases yes. Guarantee you, though, that if an NFL team was placed in Lincoln, or Columbus, Tuscalossa, BR, Gainsville, Ann Arbor, etc, the college teams would still dominate.

I'm coming at you with objective numbers, son. I think a viable argument can be made either way.

I agree that, where an NFL team and a NCAA team coexist, the NFL team wins. But the vast majority of the country does not live in a city with an NFL team. Everyone has a local university to cheer for.

You're also kind of cherry-picking here. Falcons are more popular than Georgia Tech, but are they more popular than the Dawgs? Or, and this is the real question, are the Falcons more popular than Ga. Tech and UGA combined?

If attendence is the argument then High school football is most popular.

The NFL is the highest level of football played on the planet. This is why it is the most popular.

Personally I prefer College, but I understand that the NFL is more popular.

This may be true. But I don't think attendance should be the only factor. TV ratings play into it; so does the devotion of the fans. Lots of people go to hs football games and don't really care if they win or lose. Not to say there aren't devoted fans of hs football, but it's not as many.

I really don't know the answer here; I'm just saying that it's not as clear-cut an NFL victory as you seem to believe.

Both bigger and more passionate fan bases than a college team

Shoot, total attendance of high school teams outweigh college.

The ratings tell the tale. BCS CG v. SUper Bowl as well, even if you factor out the worl wide audience for the SuperBowl.

Not. They do not dominate anywhere else. Initially, yes, but after some time, no way in heck.

Well obviously. Those places are called college towns for a reason, they tend to be highly concentrated with fans of the college in that town.

If the Oakland Raiders moved to Gainesville, FL what team are the Gainesville folk most likely to watch:
(A) the team with a bunch of players who are comprised of random universities around the country
OR
(B) the team with guys who grew up in the area and are all apart of the UF culture?

I'd say B.

The NFL is hands down the most popular sport in this country. It is really hard for me to watch pro football, but i have to admit it is more popular.

It's true. Wherever there is a NFL team, they are the #1 sports attraction. even in the south. Miami, Atlanta, New Orleans. Everywhere.

Then whay do Saints fans dominate Louisiana reltaive to LSU (which they do)? Move the Saints to BR and in time they would take over. Move the Dolphins to gainsville and the same would happen.
