If you dont think not training for football specifically and not being able to run all the plays due to lack of time with the team cut into his efficiency I dont think this conversation is worth having
He's a RB. Take ball, hit hole. He ran for 6.6 YPC in college. How much more was he really supposed to get out of the NFL than his 5.4 YPC?

quote:No he isnt. He is revered as a guy who played a limited amount of football at an incredibly high level while also being a All star baseball player
but he's revered as an NFL legend, which is where the overrated part comes into play.

15,000 yards and 5.4 YPC
That would be considered one of the best running backs of all time So I am not sure what you are even arguing now

, of course he is. Have you read this thread?
People have taken his Bo Knows campaign + Tecmo Bowl and allowed the cultural impact of Bo Jackson to become bigger than the actual on the field results.

No he isn't. He is revered as one of the greatest athletes of all time with a "what could have been" attitude towards his career stats because of injury and baseball. People do argue he could have been one of the best of all time with a fully dedicated career and no injury. Nobody argues he is an all-time NFL legend based on his career stats.
If you disagree with any of that then you are crazy.

You could say the same about Jamaal Charles, except his numbers would have been even better.
Alas, multiple knee injuries did him in.
Being able to stay healthy is a big part of whether or not you're a legend.

Bo is talked about as "one of the best pure athletes of all time that could have been an nfl legend if he focused on football only without injuries"
That is is legacy to the majority of people

Start a thread asking who the best RBs were in NFL history. Report back.

And that speculation is thrown to the curve when asked who the greatest RBs in were in NFL history.
Gil Brandt has Bo Jackson #4 all time, for example.

You're right.
A guy with 2700 rushing yards in 4 seasons would have definitely averaged 1500 for 8 years straight AND kept the same yard per carry.

Here is a 6 page thread
Only once in the entire thread (page 5) was bo jackson mentioned
And the poster said it was based on talent and not production....

as the initiator of this thread, my intent is not to minimize what was ACTUALLY accomplished by these two...everyone agrees on the freakish athleticism of Bo...everyone agrees (I suppose) on the downfield passing ability of Joe.
But the truth is that the legend of them both...IMHO...doesn't measure up to what they actually accomplished in the NFL.
Thanks for playing and pick up your case of Rice-a-Roni on the way out.
