From this past week:
- Most opinions have been Anti-Dern in her botched weight cut
- Mixed opinions on the Pennington corner, though most said it should have been stopped
- Tony Ferguson, 6wks post surgery for torn LCL is working out again, even kicks. Seems he's setting himself up for re-injury
- Appears Ariel Helwani and Chael Sonnen will have a weekly show on ESPN starting soon. I expect it to be a disaster and lead to the end of Helwani's career. Sonnen plays the instigator and does it well. Helwani just looks like a weasel.
- Chuck Liddell says he definitely wants to come back for Tito fight part 3; but it doesn't have to be Tito. He says he'll fight Chael or whoever. Also said he wants a couple warmup fights and would like a piece of Bone Jones. Jon said to come and get it. Predictably Chael has lampooned both Tito and Chuck.
- Vitor had an injured knee leading to the fight last week with Machida, but no indication it affected the outcome.
- Due to Conor's hatred of buses, Ray Borg lost a fight on that card. He was supposed to fight on this Chile card against Brandon Moreno, but his son was born and has required some major surgeries, so he withdrew from the card.

Note: I believe the order of the fights goes from bottom to top, within each of the categories below.
UFC Chile Prelims on UFC Fight Pass (6:30 p.m. ET):

135 lbs: Henry Briones vs. Frankie Saenz
155 lbs: Claudio Puelles vs. Felipe Silva
145 lbs: Enrique Barzola vs. Brandon Davis

UFC Chile Prelims on FS2 (8 p.m. ET):

170 lbs: Michel Prazeres vs. Zak Cummings
125 lbs: Ray Borg vs. Brandon Moreno
115 lbs: Poliana Botelho vs. Syuri Kondo
145 lbs: Gabriel Benitez vs. Humberto Bandenay

UFC Chile Main Card on FS1 (10 p.m. ET):

170 lbs: Demian Maia vs. Kamaru Usman
115 lbs: Alexa Grasso vs. Tatiana Suarez
205 lbs: Jared Cannonier vs. Dominick Reyes
135 lbs: Guido Cannetti vs. Diego Rivas
125 lbs: Veronica Macedo vs. Andrea Lee
170 lbs: Chad Laprise vs. Vicente Luque

Big John had a good take on this on JRE podcast. I am on the side of they should have called the fight. However my opinion does not mean frick all since I am not a pro fighter.

This is what I don't get. Why does someone have to be a pro fighter to have a legit opinion on this? Big John isn't a pro fighter but he's usually considered the best referee.

Using this logic, does every corner and every referee now have to be a pro fighter?

Luke Thomas also addressed this pretty well and pretty much ripped apart the whole "you have to be a fighter to have an opinion" position.

My opinion is that they should have stopped it. She didn't have the tools to stop Nunes in the 5th round and all they did was set her up to get hurt worse. Luckily it wasn't as bad as it looked on tv.

Another interesting thing I heard Dustin poirier say is that his leg is still tender from the gaethje fight. That's fricking wild man. That fight was like a month ago.

It won't work but not because of helwani. Nobody watches espn for that kind of shite anymore. You can watch hot takes on YouTube with minimal advertisement and on your own timing.

Also, helwani is a throwback to old school journalism where you wore a nice suit and weren't afraid to ask the tough questions. He kind of rambles on his podcast but he gets all the big interviews and is by far the mma journalist with the most following.

Helwani is a hack. He doesn't ask tough questions. He asks questions to create controversy. I mean what kind of question is, "Is the UFC treating you well?" He just tries to stir up the pot over and over. I despise him. He wants to be the story, not report on the story - and to me that is anything but old school. I lost all respect for him when he cried on TV because Dana White cut off his access. Helwani needs to disappear from the planet. Even the fighters now call him out during interviews when he tries to stir up shite.

Remember when he cried after getting temporarily banned from covering UFC events?
Nevermind, I didn't read your whole post.

And what did that do? Dude had ESPN,cnn, everyone talking about him. Then the UFC bowed down and let him back. He knows what he is doing. He also knows controversy sells so he is always trying to get fighters to talk shite.

He cried. Tears, mumbling, the whole pre-schooler thing. A grown man. Crying. Not stating his case. Crying.

And when he was called out for misreporting stuff about Montoya recently he had nothing to say. No rebuttal. No apology. Nothing at all.

I wish Dana would yank his access again, permanently.

That was nice! Couldn't tell if the slam knocked him out or one of the follow up shots.

Yeah, Benitez caught him early, almost got trapped then slammed him down. I thought that was illegal now, to slam someone like that because it's an up & down slam. But maybe I'm mistaken.

Holy shite - dont know if they are showing a live shot right now of Smith and Fitzgerald talking but there is no one in the arena. Maybe it's taped earlier. Bunch of empty chairs behind them.

Can't believe Maia is a +450 dog. I know Usman has great wrestling base and probably better striking, but still cant see it. I assume Kamaru will employ the same strategy Woodley used. If I had a gambling outlet, I would load up on Maia based on value alone.

Looks full to me. Surprised me because usually not many people show up this early.

Kamara is a real problem in the division... Even at 30%.

For real though, with his wrestling and cardio if the guy could get just a little better with his striking he could be a real force. I think he is already a top 5 guy just on what we have seen so far.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time believing Maia should be such an underdog.

Those chairs behind them were totally empty - now there's some trickling butts filling seats. I guess those are the top dollar seats. Makes sense they probably fill later.
