As baseball’s best team, they can afford to be picky. Which explains why they seem focused, maybe even fixated, on Yu Darvish. Not that anyone didn’t know how much they like Darvish, but manager Dave Roberts made it clear when he announced, “I think anyone would want Yu Darvish.” The Dodgers’ feeling, even before Clayton Kershaw went down with a recurrence of back trouble, was that there was no reason they needed to trade for depth, and that high quality was all they sought. And now that Kershaw is out (the hope is that it’ll be only four to six weeks, but backs are tricky, and last year it was twice that long), they presumably want Darvish even more.”

It's not happening because the rangers won't settle and the Dodgers won't overpay

Dodgers have a good team Darviah plus Kershaw/Hill would give them a title imo

and the dodgers without darvish are still the favorites to win a title

they dont need darvish and they dont need gray. those are marginal improvements and not worth the cost if you ask me

Meh, they may be the favorites but I still like the Nats. I think Yu is a difference maker between the two clubs if the Dodgers obtain him.
Nats bullpen has settled down a bit recently and they should be better than they've shown down the stretch.

and you can think that. i wholeheartedly disagree and would be very upset if we trade verdugo or buehler or anyone of high stature for a fricking rental. thats not how you run a successful organization. this is baseball. the postseason is a crap shoot and the dodgers have more than enough to win the world series. the dodgers should be looking to round out the pen with a player like hand or wilson

So is the future... I'm a big believer in keeping prospects but when you can acquire a player that can be a difference maker like Yu in a post season series you go for it. That is why I like what the Cubs did with Chapman and it paid off.

Dude, at some point, you just have push your chips and go for it when you are that damn good. You will forget about Verdugo or Buehler during the Dodgers victory parade.

It is more important to significantly increase your chance of winning the WS than hold a top prospect.

That is my sentiment. If the Yankees we're close and a player like Gray or Yu was the difference in going to the series I'd be ok with trading a top prospect. However, we are not close to that yet.

and the cubs had a need for chapman. it made sense. this is a luxury. getting darvish would be awesome and id have a different opinion if kershaw was never coming back and if wood and hill werent playing like they were. but its not there

im open to gray

i am more than ok with paying a price of something like alvarez or calhoun for gray

i dont like the thought of trading guys who are elite prospects who will most likely be on the major league team in about four weeks, let alone for a rental, when the team as currently constructed is the favorite to win the world series

There's a 40% chance Verdugo does not amount to shite and 60% for Buehler.

You can lose this trade to win the war. The Dodgers have an unlimited budget, top heavy and deep farm, loaded ML team, and fairly recently promoted guys balling out in Seager and Bellinger. The team is excellent all around. Don't sit on your hands. Trading one top prospect won't destroy the farm either.

The entire staff is so injury prone. Banking on the health of Kershaw, Wood, and Hill is crazy when Yu or Gray is up for grabs.

The Dodgers have certainly convinced me that they are the best team and deserving of a title. Now, it's time to maximize your chance to win it. Being the best is a great feeling, but it is such a relief when the result match the process.

r
and what are the odds of the dodgers winning the world series with darvish? not great either

EXACTLY. the team can stay put and will still be the favorite to win the world series, or we can go and make a move for gray and pay a price that we would be comfortable paying

im not against the idea of trading a top prospect for a player like gray. i am more than willing to do so. if we could get gray for something centered around alvarez, id do it immediately. i dont like the idea of trading away a top prospect who will most likely be in the major leagues in a couple weeks

i mean its not like gray or darvish are picture perfect examples of health

and i guess this is where i view it differently. i just want the organization to be in a place where it can make playoff run after playoff run for the next 15 years+. trading away an elite prospect whose about to be on the major league team for a rental isnt something very conducive of that

The Cubs were excellent all around last year. It is worth trying to lap the field sometimes.

If the Dodgers chance without Yu is 20% to win the WS and 30% with Yu, then would you go for it? I would.

Coming up in a few weeks =/= MLB value

4 pitchers > 3 cause anyone can get hurt.

The Dodgers will be fine either way. With an infinite budget, they could set their AAA team on fire and never stop being a contender. Not every single move has to be future driven (but the vast majority should).

I mean, how many starting players on the MLB roster are you even trying to replace? Guys like Barnes are blocked and he's not the only one.
