Josh Johnson Rumors: Friday
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 27 at 10:48am CST]
The Marlins seek a Mark Teixeira-like package for Josh Johnson, Jon Heyman reported yesterday. In other words, Miami seeks at least three good young pieces for the right-hander. The Blue Jays are pursuing Johnson and the Rangers, Angels and Orioles also appear to have interest. Here's the latest, with the most recent items up top:

There's lots of debate in front offices over Johnson's availability, ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick writes (Twitter links). One GM says the Marlins "want a ton" for Johnson, but Crasnick suggests the Marlins would move the right-hander under the right circumstances.
The Marlins are asking for each team's top two or three prospects in trade scenarios involving Johnson, Crasnick adds (Twitter links). It'd take Jurickson Profar-Travis d'Arnaud types to get talks moving and "a lot more" after that.

A week ago it looked like they'd add some much needed prospects into their system by trading Garza and Dempster. Now, it looks like Garza won't be traded and they won't get a max return for Dempster since he's refusing to go anywhere but LA, and the Dodgers have all the leverage.

What's even crazier is the Padres wanting a Latos type package for Chase Headley.

Holy hell. Sounds from this like he'll still be a Marlin going forward.

frick Dempster. Let him go to L.A. Can't wait until he regresses back to the career 4.30 ERA pitcher that he is.

Why is that crazy?

Headley > Latos

The Garza thing is just bad luck, but Dempster is a fricking cockbasket and he deserves to be punched in the face with a car.

Not only is it Profar they are asking for, supposedly they want Olt as well. Unless they are including Stanton as well, that is just majorly stupid. Even then, I wouldn't include Profar.

Please explain to me the Probar situation. Where will he play when he eventually gets called up?

Profar is their future SS.

They won't retain Andrus.

Lots of people speculate Kinsler to LF and Andrus to 2B, but Kinsler's bat isn't good enough for the corner OF and Andrus won't want to move off SS.

Goldstein of Baseball Prospetus said it's almost a gurantee Andrus won't be retained by the Rangers when Profar is ready.

IF Andrus is re-signed, you will see Kinsler in RF with Profar at 2nd. The Rangers outfield next year/year after might be completely different, with 2+ new players out there.

This year is the Rangers last chance at a ring until all their big prospects are MLB ready. And if they want to capitalize on that opportunity, they are going to need to get a top of the rotation guy. Which means some prospect(s) will have to go.

Gotta rob Peter to pay Paul

Andrus gonna get paid out on the market. Probably will be a Yankee.
