When he was up and coming i think he would have done fine against those guys. Forman and maybe a younger larry holmes would be the guys i think he would have had to worry about just because they were so big and skilled. But as mentioned he was a diff fighter when he was younger. His defense was as good as his offense which later all just turned into him taking shots looking for the home run shot.
Exactly. Watch Tyson against Berbick, Spinks, Holmes etc and then watch the Douglas fight. Tyson's defense was nearly impenetrable back then. Always bobbing and weaving, never getting caught flat footed, using the peek a boo that D'Amato and Rooney banged into his head every day. And he was ALWAYS in position to lay you out with that uppercut the moment you slipped up. Fast forward two years to the Douglas fight and he looks like he's standing in cement.
I'm not taking away anything from Douglas because that was the fight of his life but all those jabs do not land if we are talking about 1985-1988 Tyson imo.
Cus D'Amato and Jimmy Jacobs deaths were the worst possible thing that could've happened to Tyson because that allowed Don King to get his foot in the door and run off all of Mike's support staff one by one.
I've always wondered how different Tyson's career would have been had D'Amato lived another 10 years.

And it doesnt mean anything so who cares?

Tyson in his prime would of had to KO lewis which would have been tough the way lewis jabbed. I would take a 20 yr old mike over LL but it wasnt a gimme. Klitchco (sp) is another tough match up for mike. Same thing he would have to get through that jab and get the KO. When Tyson did fight Lewis he was garbage and only really got the fight because of the money it would generate.

Tyson embarressed everyone he fought including some nice wins. Spinks being the most impressive but berbick and holmes were nice too. Hell bonecrusher smith was a tough dude and tyson beat him in the only decision i even remember mike having early on. Tyson was clearly a diff fighter when he lost those guys. He went from a guy with insane defense to a guy that didnt even try to move out of the way. Almost like the Damian wayans character in " the great white hype" His offense went from great boxing and if you made a mistake he drilled you to he just threw huge shots. He isnt even a top ten boxer all time IMO because of it.

Lewis is a year older than Tyson.
Both of them in their prime....Lewis outboxes Tyson hands down!

And again tyson sucked arse by the time he fought lewis. No way lewis beats him in 1985

Well no shite....Lewis hadn't even went pro yet in 85.
But in both of their primes Lewis is the better boxer.
Lewis is ranked higher then Tyson on every all-time list out there for a reason.

There are really two mike tysons. pre don king and post don king
pre don king he was probably one of the top..3 heavyweights of all time
post dong king he was a headhunter

As previously mentioned, Tyson had a younger prime than most because of his shorter stature. Tyson peaked in his early 20s. Lewis was at his peak in his late 20s

Obviously you don't understand boxing prime? Riddick Bowe was a shot fighter at 28/29 & was beaten severely by Golota before retiring(29 year old Bowes reflexes were gone & he sounded like 40 year old Ali after his 2nd Golota fight).
Michael Tyson was 38/39-0 at the end of 1989 when he absolutely cleared out the hw division.
Lennox Lewis(a year older) made his pro debut in 1989 as well as Riddick Bowe
Its not Tysons fault that Bowe & Lewis were still using training wheels in 1989 & playing pity pat in the amateurs while Mike cleared out the division .
In 1991 before prison Tyson was 41-1 & Lewis (15-0) & Bowe(around 18-0) combined for perhaps less than 35 fights.
There were no dodging these young hw's who had proved little. They were looming or future Tyson prospects ,but stop with this dodging Bowe or Lewis. Stuff
If peak Tyson had beaten Lewis or Bowe before 91 I can hear the excuses about them 'not being ready' or 'inexperienced ' pros.
Even Lewis said immediately after beating Tyson in 2002(paraphrase) "that's not the same fighter" from Tysons pre prison peak.
Lennox Lewis had his clock cleaned twice by Oliver McCall(94) & almost decapitated by Hasim Rahman .
Don't think for a minute prime/peak Tyson couldn't easily dispose of Lewis.

Tyson's best victory was Michael Spinks. Spinks won the Gold Gloves and Olympic Gold Medal, won 93 amateur career. As a professional he unified the Light-Heavyweight title by beating all 3 champions. After 10 title defenses he defeated Larry Holmes in consecutive fights to win the Heavyweight title. Spinks only lost once in his 32 pro fights.
Spinks is considered by many the 3rd-5th ranked Lhw of all time. In perhaps one of its toughest eras Spinks was the man.
Was Spinal a great HW? No. But Tyson made one of the all time greatest boxers look feeble(although I think Spinks was fighting for that last check & may have not been at his best).
Marciano beat a 38 year old LHw in Archie Moore & past his prime LHW who had move up from MW (Ezzard Charles) twice.
If you want to pick Boxers resumes apart.
Tyson beat everyone reasonably available pre prison & beat them convincingly except Holyfield whom had to pit off until 5 years later & prison inactivity.

Yes. He is on mine too. My guess is a 1985 mike tyson would have knocked any year lennox lewis out though. The lewis later in his career would have been a guy that even 1985 mike tyson would not have wanted to go to the cards with......but i dont think lewis had the chin to make it that far with a prime mike tyson. Again all time boxers mike isn't a top ten name imo. His drop off was too great from when he was killing everyone.

I've beat Tyson on Punch Out but you have to basically get the timing down perfect. Lots (and I mean lots) of trial and error. Anyone saying they beat Tyson on the first try or even the first 20 tries is lying.
I am with you on the Top Gun and Ninja Turtles thing for sure. The underwater bomb defusing thing was IMPOSSIBLE and I played that game thousands of times it seemed like. Same for Battletoads flying bike level.

I always thought tyson was easier then super macho man on punch out. Lol. It did take me a while to figure tyson though. Once i did i beat him almost every time i played him.
