A portion of what he said. I don't think the video captured the first few sentences though.

quote:

"We're always the last line of defense on bang-bang plays. You never get to see us line somebody up in a hole like a linebacker. We're playing full speed. He's 4.4-4.3 speed. Aim that. You go do that. You can't. It's just the risk of playing football. If a ball is in the air and the man jumps and a man ducks his head, how do you want me to readjust my body? You cannot do it. At the end of the day this is Foot-Ball. If you want to see flag football, then let's take our pads off. That would make it easier for me. Now, I don't have to wear heavy shite. Give us flags for me to pull off so that way I know what we are playing. I signed up to play full-speed, contact football. We're not doing that. I feel like I've got to ask a guy, 'Hey, are you ready for me to hit you right now before I hit you? That's crazy. I'm going to mess around and get hurt trying to protect an offensive player because he's running an over route. Dammit, your quarterback shouldn't have thrown the ball messed up."

He was making sense until he started bitching at Goodell. The players agreed to and gave him that power.

He said they as players have to do better during the next CBA and get better leadership.

He basically admitted they fricked up the last one.

He does have a point.

But at the same time you have players trying to sue the league for injuries they had 20 years ago.

So whatcha gonna do if you’re the NFL?

He also correctly assessed blame to the NFLPA

What are they gonna do? Strike? The owners have all the power.

CBA negotiations are coming in 2020. If there were more players that cared as much as Mitchell or if they got better leadership, then they might be able to get a better deal.

Owners don't want to miss games, so there's the leverage the players have. And they have more leverage than the NBA players have and they were still able to agree to a great deal with their owners. It just takes good union leadership and some balls.

I mean they’ll just lock them out though, right? And get what they want.

These are the same players who effectively lost themselves money this year by kneeling. I don’t expect them to make any wise decisions/negotiations in the next CBA

Lolwut? Outside of that one weekend after trumps dumbass comments, it was like 10 guys league wide.

There are plenty of guys capable of stepping up to the table and performing well. It’s all about if they want to or not.

Either way both sides will have to come to an agreement. And other leagues have proven that the owners don't hold all the cards.

The owners aren't going to want to miss games and revenue. They haven't in 20 or so years. They will concede somethings to get stuff done. Honestly I don't think they care about goodells power, in fact I think most would rather eliminate his overwhelming power, but they will use that as leverage in negotiations and give it up in the last stage in order to get something they really want to stay to stay.

The players aren't powerless, they are just lead by an inept NFLPA that gets their arse kicked in every labor dispute.
