Michael Jordan decided to do this documentary on the day of the Cavs’ championship parade

For two decades, footage from the Bulls “Last Dance” sat in a vault in Secaucus, NJ. Michael Jordan controlled the rights, and wasn’t ready to make a documentary. But on the day of the Cavs championship parade in 2016, he finally said yes.

Great read

I'm fully convinced had social media existed during Jordan's day, nobody would like him. From all accounts, he is a vindictive, spiteful a-hole, who cannot control his own competitive impulses.

It’s been well documented that he was a jerk to kids asking for his autograph. In some cases, he was so rude to the point where he would make some kids cry.

I just remember that he literally brought his high school or college coach to his HoF induction just to basically lecture him in front of a national audience.

You can say the same thing about most beloved icons from yesteryear. I think Jordan and Nike would’ve figured out how to navigate the social media age we currently live in.
ETA I don’t think you can become the absolute best at whatever you do without being a little bit of a psycho/sociopath.

When Hehir interviewed Jordan's daughter Jasmine, she told him that when she was about to give birth, she asked her father what he wanted to be called? Grandpa? Pops? Grandpops?
Jordan thought about it for a moment, then said, "'Have him call me Michael.'"

This desire to control time, or at least try to bend it to his will, is quintessentially Jordan. The man built his persona on outworking and outwilling people.
Those were his terms as a player and a teammate. Anyone who couldn't meet them didn't belong on his team.
In many ways, those are still his terms.
He couldn't control time. But he could control when he allowed someone to tell his story.
So this isn't the definitive documentary about one of the greatest players of all time, Michael Jordan. It's a documentary about one of the greatest teams of all time, the 1997-98 Bulls, with Jordan as a leading character.
And he was ready to tell it, right after another player (James) and another team (the Warriors) got dangerously close to challenging those legacies.

Say what you want to about these traits but that's the professional personality level one must reach to become the GOAT. Lawrence Taylor, Jim Brown, Tom Brady shared these same traits (LT expressed them in a more controversial manner with the prostitutes and all, threw caution to the wind when it came to his personal life too) and it translated to them reaching mythical legendary heights as athletes and competitors.

Yeah, putting Brady in there is a low blow. Dude just had a split with a team he's been with for 20 plus years, and hasn't said anything negative yet. I will give you the TB12 stuff is insane, but I don't think it's spiteful.

IMO this has more to do with shitting on the 73-9 Warriors over shitting on LeBron and the Cavs.
Still, classic Jordan.

Tollin didn't answer. Jordan repeated the question.
Tollin wondered if this was going to work for or against him. Like the timing with the Cavaliers' championship parade that morning, it was impossible to know.
Tollin mumbled a cautious, "Yes."
Jordan took his glasses off, looked up and said, "I watched that thing three times. Made me cry. Love that little guy."
Then he walked around the desk, extended his hand and said, "Let's do it."

Kobe was kinda the same and Lakers fans will stone you if you talk bad about him on social media.

He’s an interesting dude. I have always assumed he’s an a-hole, and think his own screwups led to his father’s death.
Oddly enough, he hasn’t been in the spotlight in retirement as much as he could. He’s been relatively quiet. But damn...he is VERY protective of his status as GOAT.

I don’t think Kobe was shitty to his fans. I couldn’t stand him, but haven’t heard stories about him being a prick to kids or anything.

This is all about answering back at Lebron GOAT arguments IMO. What's the point of shitting on a 73-9 team that didn't finish the job?

For some reason people think everyone loved Jordan back in the day. I wanted him to lose so bad in the Finals and he never did. Your stance on people like him soften over time.
