Not many teams beat the Lakers, Celtics, and Cavs.
Hornets are 1-3 v these teams
Rockets are 0-3 v these teams
SAn Antonio is 0-0 v these teams
Utah is 0-2 v these teams
Denver is 1-4 v these teams
Mavs are 0-3 v these teams
Phoenix is 0-2 v these teams
Portland is 0-2 v these teams
So, the 8 teams vying for 7 WC spots are 2-19 v these teams.

The Hornets defense efficiency is like 12th or 13th, teams shoot 38% from behind the arc against the Hornets.
The Hornets offense is better than their defense, speaking from an efficiency standpoint.

so your argument here is that while only 2 of these teams have victories against one the 3 best teams in the league neither of which is the mavs, that somehow, be it by osmosis or some other scientific process this correlates to the Mavs being the second best team in the west?

No, I was just responding tha beating the Celtics/Lakers/Cavs isnt' a prerequisite for being the 2nd best in the West because every West team is poor v them... the Mavs have 4 more opportunities v these teams, I expectwe'll go 2-2.
I didn't say the Mavs were the best in the NBA< I just said we were the 2nd best in the West... behind the Lakers. iN the NBA< behind the Celtics/Cavs... so those 3 teams are better than us, so of course they will have a good record against us.
We can close the gap if we can get something good back for Howard.

Dampier's a better rebounder and defender, but similarly inept offensively. Dampier also scores a higher PER. Mavs have a better interior defense.
