Martina Hingis...Is she the greatest what if prodigy?

Won the Wimbledon doubles title when she was 15 years old. Youngest ever.
In 1997, Hingis became the undisputed World No. 1 women's tennis player when she was 17 years old. Youngest ever.
The only Grand Slam singles title that Hingis failed to win when she was 17 years old was the French Open where she lost in the Finals.
When she was 18, she became only the third woman to hold the No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles simultaneously.
She didn't win another Grand Slam title after age 19.
In 2001, Switzerland, with Hingis and Roger Federer on its team, won the Hopman Cup.[ Hingis didn't drop a set in any of her singles matches during the event, defeating Tamarine Tanasugarn, Nicole Pratt, Amanda Coetzer, and Monica Seles. Federer was later quoted as saying: "I learned a lot from her, especially the two years I was here - once as a hitting partner and once as a partner with Martina. Definitely she helped me to become the player I am today."
Hingis reached her fifth consecutive Australian Open final in 2001, defeating both of the Williams sisters en route, before losing to Jennifer Capriati.
But then injuries forced her to retire at age 22. She could have been GOAT. She was the highest paid female athlete in the world for 5 consecutive years.
During this segment of her tennis career, Hingis won 40 singles titles and 36 doubles events. She held the World No. 1 singles ranking for a total of 209 weeks (fifth most following Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova (after whom she was named), Chris Evert, and Serena Williams)

Haven’t heard that name in ages. Lleyton Hewitt and Gustavo Kuerten were big names on the men’s side around that time...then Nadal and Fed took over.

She was damn good and sexy too
Had Seles not gotten stabbed though, she would have been GOAT. Steffi Graf wouldn't have been shite

She won with creative shot making and variety, but big babe tennis with the Williams sisters, Sharapova, and Davenport etc. was going to take over the sport at some point, anyway.

Wasn’t Mary Pierce supposed to be awesome too?

Injuries aren’t what forced her out....
Women’s tennis got waaaaaay too physical for her and she saw the writing on the wall

Serena was going to be the GOAT regardless. I’m not a fan -she’s practically a man out there. Not much you can do. big beast of a woman.

Idiotic statement.

She ended up having a long and successful doubles career. She just retired within the last year. But I agree with you, pride. She was a mercurial shotmaker not a baseline basher. She got phased out on the singles side.

Seles was pretty much going to be the end of Grafs run, and likely the GOAT
That is why a graff fan stabbed her

Didn’t she sue a shoe company for her foot injuries or something?

Seles was an amazing player. She had WTA in a stranglehold at her peak and wasn’t slowing down. Didn’t she make all 4 finals in 92?

I thought Hingis fell off a horse and that’s what caused her to get injured.

Injuries, huh? Is that what you call it?
Where I come from, we call it "love of recreational drugs and strange D".

Seles was insane. I'm not as big a fan of the women's game, but I could watch that girl play anytime. The angles she hit were nuts.

Hingis was ultimately forced out of the game in November 2007 after she tested positive at Wimbledon for a metabolite of cocaine. She ended up suspended until October 2009.
Her nose forced her out of the game.

Not even a little bit idiotic. Seles had Graf's number....and then she got stabbed and discovered ice cream.
To me, Seles is the ultimate "what if".

She had retired then made a comeback. For some reason I swear she fell off a horse and caused major knee surgery.

You can't come in here and say some shite like this without some facts or at lest your opinion on the matter
Seles owned Graf

I think she could have still been competitive at the highest level for a number of years, but she was never going to be GOAT.
