It's not the amount of a substance you take that makes you an addict, it's the reason, the way it impacts the rest of your life, and ability to stop at any time.

I battled addiction myself and thought I had everything under control until the moment comes you realize you don't and hopefully you aren't too far gone and too many bridges burnt by then. I got a second chance and now have a great life and great career. Hope Johnny can get the same deal, but his football days, as far in the NFL, are likely over.

how rich is his family to fall back on? Everyone always says he's rich like he's a rockefeller. Like $5-10M or like $100M+
Take it As you may, but a poster here claiming to have known Johnny for a long time (not unbelievable, lots of Texas posters here) said the whole family wealth thing is overblown and that his dad is a used car dealer. I believe he said they have a trust but it's not some endless flow of money.

Addiction has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Two family members that are still to this day struggling extremely hard, and I myself have struggled in the past. And as I'm sure you can attest to, every day is a battle.
That moment you speak of is one of the more eye-opening and scary moments one can imagine. I'm not really sure what triggers it, it's probably different for everyone. But the rush of anxiety someone feels when it finally hits them that they can't live this way, and that they don't know what the frick they're doing, is immeasurable. Keep fighting the good fight man, there is so much more to life

It's what binds us. No matter your drug, everyone has the moment. The split second you realize you are wrong, you don't have it under control, and you are ruining your life, is as you say a scary and eye-opening moment. But we have all had it, some of us multiple times, and you are right, every single day is a battle knowing in as little as 30 minutes I could go get more, but you have to stay the course, at least the best you can. Someone I used to know always said "I know I got one more high in me, but I also know I don't have another detox in me, I would rather die than feel that again." That's always stuck with me because he is right, Opiate withdrawals after heavy use are THE WORST thing ever and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. The fear of that pain again keeps me clean or cleanish more than anything.

Also I'm not impressed. I've awoken to way more fricked-upness of a house/hotel many many more times.

I'm pretty sure we agree just using different terminology.

The more this continues the less Aggies will white knight for him. That has me sad.

I'm just surprised there is perfectly-good coke still on the table. Clearly he has yet to truly hit rock bottom.

I'm sure what hits the news in regards to Manziel is just the tip of the debaucherous iceberg.

Okay. Well you took the time to open the thread and then post about it.

This goes far beyond just being a moron. He's not someone just looking for a good time. He's purposefully destroying himself because he has serious inner demons.
Josh Gordon? Now that guy is simply being a moron.
Wut?
They both continue to f*ck up and one is a moron and the other has "inner demons"?

Supposedly, his parents are worth around $50 million.

One's on hardcore drugs and the other is smoking weed. Pretty big difference to me.
They're both morons but Manziel has bigger problems than simply being a moron.

I think Johnny needs to be an arena league QB for the Las Vegas Outlaws
That would be a solid idea if they hadn't folded after less than a year.
I don't think Johnny's doing anything a lot of people his age do after college. His problem is that his chosen profession has a very small window to make money, and he's blowing it. Most of us could screw around like this and still recover from it because there are more than 32 potential employers out there. He doesn't have that luxury and sadly probably won't realize it until it's too late.

I don't know about a lot of people. I don't think NFL players are different from normal guys, other than their athletic gifts. Most of them aren't screwing up this badly.

Most of them don't have as many people following them around documenting what they do either.
I mean, how badly has he really screwed up? He likes to drink and do drugs, lots of 25 year old professionals do. If I had cameras following me out to the clubs when I was 25 they'd have gotten some awesome drunken videos of me too.
Meanwhile Aaron Hernandez was murdering people while the rest of us had no clue because cameras don't follow tight ends around.

Again it's not what or how much of whatever it is you are using. It's the reason you're using, is it impacting your personal life, and can you stop and go as you choose to use. In Manziels case it seems he has all the signs of someone who is not only severely addicted to some form of drug/alcohol but possibly beyond that a psychological problem in his brain where he can't come to grips with what is going on around him. The dude needs immediate treatment for and addiction and be put into a place he can detox the most pain free and also psycho evaluations.
Josh Gordon just wants to smoke weed and if you would rather do that than play in the NFL this is America in that's your choice. Their two situations couldn't be more different. Gordon may have a mild addiction but nothing like Manziel has shown.
