So you don't think the Dodgers are going to pick up his option?

Why not?

Manny for $20million (with no commitment for another season) is probably a good deal these days.

I won't mind if they sign him, but hopefully it's only to a three-year deal. Supposedly Scott Boras thinks he can get a six-year deal.

Because a well-paid fat cat Manny <<< Manny chasing a FA contract.

Wouldn't that be a good reason TO pick up the option? Let him play this next season with the potential of being a FA?

Doesn't he have two years of club options in his current contract?

Yes, they could keep him for 2009 and 2010 if they want to.

Only of the Red Sox pick up %100 of his salary like they are right now, otherwise IMO, its not in the Dodgers' best interest.

I believe the club option was elminated when Manny agreed to not block the 10&5 no trade clause.

The Dodgers had an opening day salary of $118.5 million plus $40 million in stadium improvements & Torre's 13 $ million salary.

Of course the Red Sox wouldn't pick up any of it... but you don't think Manny for $20 million is a good dea; for a potential contender like the Dodgers? Especially with them getting Jason Schmidt off the books. (And maybe Furcal... although they should try to sign him again..)

Well if the Dodgers no longer have the club option, there is no way he signs with LA. They just won't pay him enough money.

That might be the case. I'm not sure of the specifics.
