Nothing good comes from throwing at players' heads or threatening to throw at their heads. That's just gutter baseball.

Nobody dared throw intentionally at someone's head for most of baseball's history...they wore wool caps.

It wasn't until the helmet that people thought, hey, now I can bean them! As if that piece of plastic is some sure-fire protector.

I will break it down for the non-baseball people.

The original slide was unintentional, think about it Machado is also an infielder why would he try to hurt another infielder. You could immediately tell there was no intention, But since he did he got thrown at, fine but since they threw at his head they (O's) had to retaliate by throwing at Betts.

Sale didn't hit Machado for a reason, he threw it behind him to send a friendly message.
Now there's no way Gausman hit him on purpose that was a dumb call.

I think what should have never started it's finally over.?

Lest we not forget Bundy hit Betts in the sixth up 2-0. Bundy also threw four walks that day. Bundy's control ain't Maddox-like.

This whole thing has been completely overblown, Pedroia quashed it early on.

That said, Chris Sale is chickenshit. His Polk County roots are showing. Without the curveball he'd probably be a recurring fan favorite on Cops - Lakeland edition.
