They'll get him back and on the cheap too.

Lets see, 4 years 60 mil for a 35 yr old righty towards the end of his career, or 3 years 30mil for a hard throwing young lefty that's figured out a way to beat the Phillies.

Im' pretty happy about the way things have turned out.

LINK

I can't use the link function at work, but here's a good article that I agree with.

Lowe may be older but he's coming off his 2nd best season as a starter and should be a good for at least another two years, while Perez has had one really good season 5 years ago and has been all over the place since. Perez has more potential but odds are it will never come together.

I think Lowe is a very good pitcher and it was a very good pickup for the Braves. I'm just going to go with the law of averages here with this one. For next year, I think the pick up will do the Braves a bunch of good, but over the length of a 4 year contract at $15/year, I'm glad the Mets didn't make that purchase. There are other pitchers out there available.

They didn't 'have' to have Lowe like it seems the Braves had to.

Even if Perez doesn't sign, Randy Wolf and Jon Garland are available. Do I think Randy Wolf and Jon Garland are bettern than Derek Lowe 'next year'? Probably not. But the Mets rotation top to bottom is still better with a Garland or Wolf or Perez in it than what the Braves will have in it next year.

This is the key point here.

Oliver Perez kills the Braves too, for what it's worth.

Now Tim Hudson needs to come out and say "Ha Ha I was just faking it so we can get more pitching." Then they will be complete.

So the Mets re-signing him really kinda nullifies whatever the Braves just did with Lowe...

I was hoping we would get Lowe. Braves need an inning eater and now they have 2 at the front end. The bullpen cant go through what it went through last year with the injuries to the SP.

Now we just need Dunn to hit behind Chipper and Mccann

Nah. Perez will continue to pitch lights out against Atlanta, and mediocre against everyone else, the way he did in 2008. The Braves deal with that, only they now have a workhorse ace at the top of their rotation.

But the Mets will still find a sure fire way to be sitting on their asses watching October go by.

If he pitches lights out against Atlanta and Philly like he did last year, I'm pretty confident he'll be able to improve some on his '08 numbers.

Either way...its all kind of a moot point. You're looking at an '05/'06 Astros situation...all those improved arms with no way of scoring runs if you dont sign Adam Dunn...

Maybe Frenchy comes around and posts up a .280/30 HR/ 100 RBI season?

The whole NL East is a moot point IMO. The phillies will take 1st and the wildcard will come from the central.

no, but a .270, 15-10 HR, 90+ RBI season isn't farfetched at all

Lowe may not be a Peavy or Santana but he'd probably be a #1 on a lot of teams.

14-11 on a weak team with a 3.24 era. Solid. And he had an amazing month of september last year.. He was pitching like the Lowe that almost singlehandedly won the World Series for the Red Sox in 2004.. The Phillies are the team I most worry about for Lowe.

He will pitch every 5th turn, and for a guy who churns out a ton of quality starts, who cares if he's an ace if he can pitch well enough to win.

Who's a better RBI machine and player. Abreu or Dunn?

There really is no rhyme or reason for a player "owning another team" I would put about zero stock into that notion when deciding to sign someone.

Lol this is so hard to realize this is the new Braves..

Lowe
Jair
Vasquez
Kawakami
Campillo

Completely different from what I grew up watching.. But quality enough I suppose.
