I considered it years ago but I don’t think it’s in the cards for me at this time

Ofcourse they SHOULD but the fact is that this won’t happen with the fans. It’s an unrealistic expectation.

A group of people cannot be expected to act in a dignified manner? Sounds like it's THAT group pf people who are "trashy as frick"!

Yes, a lot of high school sports fans are trashy.

Why are you mad that I’m calling out an umpire that was giving umpires a bad name? Maybe you should be mad at him

I believe you said "all umpires are trashy". You didn't limit it to one.

1. I didn’t say all
2. Calling things trashy is an old trope from the OT lounge. Don’t take it so seriously

This is what you said exactly......

“The umps are trashy as frick and are not accountable at all.”

And if you can do better, you need to put your money where your mouth is. Because from what I have read from you, you seem to think you would make the umps so called trashy image better, otherwise shut the frick up, and enjoy the game.

Well, for one, Lafayette association would not be calling that game due to the fact Barbe (they use Lafayette) was in it. Conflict of interest. So i seriously doubt y’all spoke with Rob.

No I don’t. I don’t want or need the job. And just like People can complain about the President without running for President, I can complain about umpires without wanting the job.

I already admitted that it was a generalization and not meant to be taken so seriously. It’s true of some but not all. I didn’t know that we had so many umps posting here but I’m not surprised that y’all are so sensitive.

Well for one, I never said that I was talking about that game

AS a long time umpire at many levels I have approached numerous fans for a multitude of reasons. If spoken to respectively and like an adult most fans will understand the human factor on both sides of the fence. If this ump did indeed throw a inappropriate comment directly at a player than he's in the wrong regardless of reason. I always took the high road with Coaches, Fans and players that action never compromised my ability to control the game.

The sensitive one here, seems to be you. You are the one who threw out the first comment about umpires. Whether you meant the “some” or “all”, well whatever. I agree, IF (and that’s a big “IF”) an inappropriate statement was made, I really do think it will be handled. But you will never know, mostly because it’s not your place to be “in the know”. But umpiring is a brotherhood. You mess with one, you get us all.

I’m not talking about the Barbe-West Monroe story, so maybe that will be handled but the game I’m referencing, I don’t think so. I spoke to the AD that talked with the RCO. They basically told the AD that it was his fault for not having his fans under control

Actually, not defending anyone. But I know that in every story, there is a truth that is somewhere in the middle. But what I am saying is that you made a bold statement in an earlier post. I know there are umpires who need much training. I get that. But many blame officiating on their short comings. But truly, most, don’t do it for the money (which makes me laugh because the money isn’t all that good) but because they love the game. Sincerely, that is why many true professionals take on the job.

If you have read my posts, not 1 time have I brought into the discussion the umpire making bad calls. I’m talking about his unprofessional conduct. Missed calls happen, what should never happen is the umpire going back and forth with heckling fans like I saw. If the fans are out of line, eject them. It’s a bad look to be jawing with fans while play is still going on.

I actually agree with your last statement. Just in the future, clarify your other statements. You threw out trashy as $&@! pretty liberally. Am I protective of umpires? absolutely. Because I’ve seen some pretty good ones go by the way side because of very poor sportsmanship by teams and fans alike.

Fair enough! But seriously, think about trying High School officiating. If you love the game, I promise, it is very rewarding.
