But, on the bright side, I've been saying for years that with the commercialization of high school sports, trans-state associations may start popping up, or at least teams may not worry as much about being state champion but rather a tournament champion in the non-football sports.

As far as football, look at what Eastern Christian is doing. They are trying to find ways around the system, and it won't be long before other schools say screw the state associations. LA could end up like Texas too, with 4-5 associations in the state, even though we barely have the numbers for the 3 currently (LHSAA, ACE, and the schools that compete in the MAIS).

agree with all of that.. but... what EC is doing is not a school but an association of kids to play football..

Destrehan has a walk to semis. Destrehan vs. the Acadiana/Barbe winner IS the state championship. Parkway has to win at WM in the semis because WM got lucky and drew EA (with no Palelei) in the quarters. I don't think Parkway wins at WM.

I wouldn't call having to beat either Notre Dame or Parkview a "walk" to the dome IMHO

I think U-High beats either ND or Parkview by 2 TDs. More team speed than both. UHigh has the athletes to man up on WRs and stack the box to stop the run. They won't get pushed around up front. Difference is Brossette, if they stack the box, Miles has weapons to throw to.

These are solid, smart picks.

One question, though. Why does everyone have a hard-on for Patterson? They played a hard non-district schedule but they also only had 6-point wins against pretty meh Westlake and ED White teams. Were they close games or 40-20 games with garbage TDs. The rest of their district outside of ED White was pretty bad.

I was torn between Patterson & Jennings on that side of bracket. I gave the nod to Patterson for what they did to Catholic-NI. I think whichever team is home, may win a slugfest. I don't think Livonia will get through. Quality win over MCD#35, but they let average teams like Port Barre & Northwest in it until the end.

I was just wondering because you are like the 3rd person I've seen talking about Patterson.

Wrong. Grace king and Ben Franklin knew before the season they weren't going to be in playoffs. Lusher did.

Make sure I am looking at this right, bottom teams are the teams hosting right?

This is how it works in all other sports.

LHSAA involved so I wanna be clear.

TIA

In the first round, the higher seed host.(Except Parkway). In second rd., if both teams were home previous, higher seed is home. If one team traveled, they would be home regardless of seed. After, its the team that traveled the most will host, if both same, higher seed host. I think that's right.

Patterson has been terrible on defense the whole year and their starting quarterback broke his collarbone in the last game. He will attempt to rehab it and play later in the playoffs on passing downs.

Didn't know that about Patterson QB. I'll change my pick to Jennings. After looking into Union Parish a little more, I think Jennings could beat them also.

Damn, sorry to hear this. Patterson will be incredibly talented the next two years. They destroyed CHS-NI and that was with quite a few 2015 and 2016 kids running around.

You have any match-up predictions for the finals in the 9 championship games?

Also, in Division III, I think the State Championship will come down to the CHS-NI vs. Calvary semi-final.

CHS-NI will get Dunham this week, probably travel to Northlake Christian in the quarters, and should get Calvary at home, since Calvary is guaranteed a home game in the quarters.

Catholic has been dismantling teams since their loss to Notre Dame. They've won 5 straight games, 4 of which against playoff teams, by a combined score of 289-56 (57.8-11.2 scoring average). They beat #1 ranked Loreauville 51-8 at Loreauville. Even in their loss to the Pios, they scored 22 points on Notre Dame, the most Norte Dame allowed all season. ND gave up an average of 6.66 points in their other 9 games this year.

I think CHS-NI will be a tough out, especially if they can get Calvary at home.

Yeah but... I was just saying they usually skip playoff consideration, and their fans seem to be fine with it... Maybe lusher knew they weren't gonna play regardless of who they drew...
