Kobe looked like he wanted to attack all of his teammates at the end of the game, and Artest looked like he was ready to fight the entire Celtics team. Lakers meltdown in game 6?

Kobe's biggest weakness has always been his ego. It is also one of his biggest strengths as it bleeds into his competitive nature.
He played amazing, but there is a reason his teammates got out of any rhythm. When he went hot, people kept saying his teammates weren't doing jack. Well no shite, Kobe shot the ball almost immediately every possession, and he was making pretty much all of them. While its great and all, it kills rhythm and ball movement for the other players. They just sit back and watch him.
He then expects them to turn it back on immediately. It just doesn't work that way. It's why most times when Kobe gets really high scoring games they lose. His tantrums, while childish are often problematic more because his teammates are just like "Why don't you just keep shooting every time if you think we can't do it?

I thought that Simmons summed it up well in his article on Lebron following the Celtics series. Towards the end he went over a number of greats and their primary motivations. He had Kobe as caring about his own greatness above all else.

No. Not against the Celtics defense.

Bingo. A little logic around here is always nice.

To be fair he started off the game getting his teammates involved and when they started bitching out he took more shots to keep them in the game.

He had 38 tonight. You don't think he can go for 50?

38 is a long ways from 50.
And if he does go for 50, the Lakers will very likely lose.

Kobe, Lebron, and Wade have all torched Boston's defense in at least one game now. None of them have been able to do it consistently though

Oh and here's that Simmons quote:
quote:
Kobe -- Greatness. Yes he's going to win some, but only because he wants to be considered great and that will be a by-product at times. But you'd also see him shoot his team out of a game; jack 3s when he should press the issue and get to the paint. He didn't mind losing a few games if people came away saying 'Kobe is great; look what happens when he doesn't shoot.

No one else on the lakers showed up tonight, Kobe has got to score a lot for them in stretches to keep them in the game, everyone on here can flame about kobe until the end of time, but no one can dispute the fact he is the best player on the floor, and if Gasol scores his average in the series the lakers win the game.
Also, how about Bynum, 31 min 0 defensive rebounds? If Artest is gonna let pierce go off, he can't be on the floor.

Well in Kobe's defense, he says, "well If we move the ball around, I get blamed for not taking over, AND we get blown out."
So what is a leader to do? Great leaders take control and put the team on their backs, and tell them to ride it out, and to HELP me.
Kobe did his part offensively, and the TEAM failed him in the 3rd quarter particulary in terms of team defense. They played the dumbest quarter ive seen a finals team play in sometime.
Jordan got away with those performances because his TEAM helped him out on defense and bailed him out. You can use the spectators excuse as an explanation in the FINALS. Not acceptable at all.
And as a leader, if a teammate isnt getting it down, and the job needs to be done, then the leader must suggest the 2nd best possible solution out there for his troops. If you can't take it, I dont know how you made it this far.
Kobe's teammates failed him today in the 3rd quarter. All he essentially asked them to do is to play one end of the court, and they couldnt even do that well.

Kobe has pretty much gotten his points all series. That doesn't change the fact that LA is one Derek Fisher miracle quarter away from going fishing.
