Very obviously manufactured hype. No one with serious basketball insight looked at them and said 'Man, they may do more than possibly, under perfect conditions, not suck so hard as to be out of contention for that 8th seed before January starts'

All of this. Anybody that actually follows basketball more than your casual fan didn't think they'd get higher than the 6 seed. Their ceiling was basically give the Celtics/Hawks a tough six games as a 7 seed then bow out.

That's always been a terrible basketball team, no matter how much advertisers and publishers have tried to spin them as having a shot at relevance to sell papers/get audiences.

They tried to create a big 3 with Melo, Rose and kristaps. It simply didn't work out. They probably wasn't gonna be great, but they were not supposed to suck this hard.

What were the expectations of Rose though? They weren't realistic. They could've been a fun offensively fast tempo team if everything worked out but they were never gonna play defense.
