I think we know by now the NFL's preferred PR policy is simply to weather the storm and continue business as usual.

so much butthurt in here over a thug who has failed multiple drug test. If that happend at any other high end job once.. your gone. Idiot failed himself and teamates.. nfl did not

I thought the same until I read the test results of Gordons recent "failed test". He gave 2 samples. The NFL threshold for THC is like .15. One sample he submitted came back at .13, the other at .17, and of course the NFL used the .17 sample. But even then, most other leagues/governing bodies/ organizations only test THC at a .50 threshold. Not to mention the dozens upon dozens upon dozens of other tests he passed since his last positive.
ETA: It really does sound like a case of second hand smoke. The NFLs unnecessarily strict rule on weed is way over the top and just Goodell wanting to flex his muscle. Gordon could compete as an Olympic Athlete but not as an NFL football player... Thats comical.

ummm he has failed what 5 drug test and had a dui? 3 of which have been in the past year? Pretty much classifies anyone as a pos thug

the "rules are rules" cliché is bullshite when you have a personal conduct policy that is entirely subjective and involves the personal judgment of only one man.
2 games for knocking out a spouse
4 games for being accused of sexual assault
16 games for smoking pot the 3rd time
so for the first two, goodell's personal judgment was the criteria
for the first, he obviously came to the conclusion that ray was put in a bad situation, and wasn't entirely at fault
for the second, he obviously felt ben was guilty of something because he wasn't charged at all.
for the third, "frick you...rules are rules. I could use my personal judgment and determine that your levels were below the threshold and conclude that it was second hand smoke, but I've got to stick to the procedures we have in place"
it is a cop out no matter how you look at it.

I'm guessing you don't come into contact with many real "thugs" in your day to day.
