I actually think he is underrated as a coach.

Thank you. He isn't perfect, no one is. If people can't see that his teams get better, I can't help them.

Meh. If you think it doesn't take coaching to teach guys that are damn near devoid of solid defense in AAU ball to play lockdown defense in less then a season then you know less about basketball then I thought. Or to get those guys to put the ego aside and play like a team.

Ask anyone that knows basketball, defense is all about effort and intensity, with the elite athletes that UK gets I sure hope he can at least teach them to play defense. How about Cal installing a real offense that carries over year after year, the only offense UK had tonight was alley oops and countering Duke when they forced turnovers. Even the commentators noted that UK had zero flow in the halfcourt offense. Getting the most out of his guys effort wise and to put the egos aside goes hand in hand with his motivator/recruiter role that he is perhaps the best in the business at. But as a tactician he is meh. I'm glad you're glad with your team, as I am the same with mine.

Top 5. You obviously will disagree, and you go to practice and talk x's and o's with him, so you know better.

I wanted to see if you'd bite and say he's better than Billy Donovan to be honest

You beautiful trollin' summabitch. I've missed you a little.

FWIW, I don't think he's an Izzo or Coach K or even Pitino in his earlier years in terms of straight X's and O's. It's been a shortcoming for him at times. But thankfully a coach isn't just a coach on strictly one facet of his game. And Cal has complete enough a package that he can have that deficiency (and it's not much of one at that IMO) and win a championship.

Idk about that, Scheyer, Singler and Smith were a special group. Plus the WVU team that beat UK got their asses handed to them by that 2010 Duke squad

So he's getting knocked for adjusting his offense to his squads he brings in? Really? Come on now.

WTF has Donovan done without that one group that won back to back. I was all on that Donovan wagon before we hired BCG. Now, I'm glad we didn't take him. Donovan has been upset in the tourney a lot. So if you think Donovan is better than Cal, so be it.

adjusting what offense?? Roll the ball out there and tell guys like John Wall, Cousins, MKG, and Anthony Davis to do their thing. and to BHO, I'm not saying that his teams don't get better, I'm saying everyone will get better by March, but he's not going to teach these frosh 2-4 years worth of knowledge like teams with real upperclassmen have. But that's the nature of the beast when you sell out to the 1 and done philosophy.

I'll even agree with you on that, Cal>>>Donovan

I hate UK and Calipari, but I have always been impressed with how all his teams play elite defense...and that dates back to his Memphis days as well....I'll at least give him that!

besides those two NC teams he's:
made the NCAA 10 other times
made the sweet 16 4 other times
made the elite 8 three other times
made the national title game one other time

that's it though besides those 2 back to back teams...

Then how do you explain all those freshman that were key beating experienced teams on the way to the championship last season, the Final Four the season before that (his best coaching job IMO), and the Elite Eight before that?

You're drastically underselling here to fit an agenda. But that's alright. I'll forgive you this time.

He should have had Bledsoe and Wall run up from the 3 point line and shoot floaters, kind of like Curry did at times today.

Personal hatred for Calipari aside, I try to be fair with UK. I begrudgingly loved watching Davis, Gilchrist, etc play. They were so good, and Lamb plays like a classic Duke gunner so you knew they were balanced.

On paper, this UK team isn't good. HOwever, no one is good besides IU so a lot of strange stuff can happen. WHich is why I laugh at pundits who forget the first 90 percent of last year, and think DUke will lose early in the NCAAs this year.

It's simple: he had ridiculous NBA talent playing for him.

lulz, ok, have fun sitting through this season, it'll be ok in the end because they'll all gone next year, better hit the recruiting trail extra early and bring the checkbook!

ETA: Belle, I'll see you in the weekly Boardwalk Empire thread, where there, we agree on just about everything

I'm sorry if you really think he doesn't teach and coach. That's silly.

No they won't. There will be plenty of teams that get worse, you just choose to ignore them because they don't make the tourney.
He has one year to develop them and get them drafted as high as possible. Again, forget the superstars. JOSH HARRELSON GOT DRAFTED. He also killed Sullinger to get to the Final Four. That dude was AWFUL under BCG. Everyone thinks Cal just lets these guys play pick up. It's quite the opposite. The kids that come here are told that if they don't work hard, don't come.....see CJ Leslie. Cal does not tolerate selfish play not does he allow them to slack.

Would have been better if he would have said we can't be suspended because we aren't in the NBA. Cal said nothing about fines. Coach K knows how to play the media as well. I can respect that.
